Four [Muslim] students at Toronto's Osgoode Hall Law School are accusing Maclean's magazine of violating their human rights over an article titled The Future Belongs to Islam [by Mark Steyn].Maybe now we'll begin to see some real debate about the Human Rights Act, Human Rights Commisssions and their suppression of free speech.
They've filed complaints with the federal, Ontario and British Columbia human rights commissions over the October 2006 article.
The article discusses the high birth rate among Muslims and speculates that Islamic people could become the majority population in Europe. It also says some Muslims are violent radicals.
Maclean's said it stands behind the writer of the article, Mark Steyn, and it is confident the human rights commissions will find no merit in the complaint.
But Sohail Raza, a representative of the Muslim Canadian Congress, said Maclean's had the right to publish the article. "This is Canada, not Sudan, Egypt or Pakistan, where the press is stifled," he said. "There is absolute freedom of expression and people have an opportunity to voice their opinion." [I wish!]

Of course the problem in all of this is this: the people deciding we should open our doors to the world for our betterment are those that profit and get to take the credit for this good work. Meanwhile many of the rest of us bleed to death for this to happen. I think it is an invasion designed to destroy Canada and the white man.
ReplyDeleteI've been calling for the tribunals to be disbanded for years, maybe now that a major media outlet has been targeted, they will wake up too. CBC and CTV are next if they don't do something about this attack on our free speech. At least they have the money to fight this, most don't.
ReplyDeleteWe really need to define what exactly are "human rights". It seems obvious enough yet anytime someone doesn't get their way they run screaming to a Human rights tribunal. The Manitoba Human Rights Commission published a list recently of abuses and inherent racism in the Winnipeg police force. Only problem is that none of the complaints were investigated at all. A one sided report that leaves one to believe the WPS has traded in their uniforms for white sheets. As for Steyn, he said the same thing in his book, America Alone, they're called facts.
ReplyDeleteAt least it will be easy to get a cab.
ReplyDeleteEvery time someone gets offended, somewhere someone sues. It's stifling open free debate, and its stifling our future. These tribunals are the quasi-legal police arm of the political correctness movement.
ReplyDeleteAnd if you look at who's on those panels, it's not exactly normal mainstream Canadians.
We are Tories right. We are the grass roots. We need to lobby our representative to put some sort of limit on these Human Rights kangaroo courts.
HELLOOOOOOOO! Mr. Harper....
I wrote the government to ask that Freedom of Speech be made an absolute right in the HRC act. They wrote me back to suggest that I consult a lawyer.
ReplyDeleteIs there anyone spearheading the right to Freedom of Speech that we can rally around and offer support and assistance? I think we are at the point where it is time to act and lobby for change instead of just complaining to no effect.
