Mulroney/Schreiber/Chrétien affair

Brian Lemon at CBL raises a good point.

Since the parliamentary ethics committee is so keen on investigating the behaviour of former prime ministers maybe they should also consider looking into Jean Chrétien's consulting activities shortly after leaving office:

Dec. 12, 2003: Last day as Prime Minister.

Three weeks later
Feb. 7, 2004: Arrives in Beijing in the company of a team of Power Corp. executives, including his son-in-law, Andre Desmarais.
[...]

Followed by ten more international lobbying and speech-making events over the next eleven months. Hmm!

  1. You are advocating what I've been saying all along, the CPC has been way too soft on the liberals since taking power. Gomery is just the tip of the iceberg. (real conservative)

  2. Chretin earned a salary - Mulroney got paid in envelopes, hidden in safety deposit box out of the country.

    Major, big, big difference here.

  3. "Chretin earned a salary"

Okay. You said it, and you must believe it. But could I have your source please?

    Who paid him?

    How much did he make?

    When did it get planned?

Was he still in office at the time?

11 years from now do you want wall to wall coverage of a parliamentary committee looking into it, with few other issues in your newspaper or on your TV screen?

  4. I would like to see a public inquiry into how all this got started. Did Chretien & Co. order the RCMP to smear Mulroney. Was there a payoff to the liberals from Boeing for orchestrating the smear? What other uses to the Liberals make of the RCMP, Tax Dept, Justice Dept to advance their own agenda? What current liberal MP's were staffers, student volunteers, relatives, or neighbours of members of the Chretien government?
