Priceless.
...the Ontario Federation of Labour is supporting the Canadian Islamic Congress's case. As Terry Downey, executive supremo of the OFL, primly explains, "There is proper conduct that everyone has to follow"...
.... there seems to be some kinky kind of competition on the Western left to be, metaphorically speaking, Islam's lead prison bitch.
I don't like what Steyn writes. I do support his right to write what is on his mind. If the Canadian Islamic Congress finds Steyn's writings to be false and libellous, it can take him to court. If the CIC finds him offensive, it can send a letter to the Maclean's editor.
ReplyDeleteThere are differences in European and Canadian international migration: In Europe, people move from north and west Africa, and the Middle East to seek work. They don't normally get citizenship due to different European countries' restrictive immigration laws. Many of the migrants are Muslim. Like Christians, they do vary in their degree and practice of beliefs. Some Muslims are only Muslim by name; others are devout believers.
In Canada, we get immigrants from China/Hong Kong, the Middle East, South Asia, and some from Europe and other places (including Antarctica--just kidding). We don't have one religious or ethnic group immigrating to Canada.
In Europe, there can be a huge clash of cultures. Go to a beach and see some of the women and girls with no tops on and men with tight skimpy swimwear. Better yet, go to a nude beach. If you're into waterslides at a waterpark, change into your skimpy bathing suit while a cleaning lady hoses down the floor in the men's changeroom. Once you are finished at the waterpark and had a shower in (again with the cleaning lady hosing the shower floor), you can go to the local pub, drink a beer while reading the local version of a Maclean's type magazine that includes nudes in advertising and health articles.
If one travels to Paris, I estimate that 25% of the inhabitants are north Africans (Arab Muslims), 25% are west Africans (black Christian or Muslim), and the other 50% are European.
Steyn is wrong about quoting "Muslims spreading like mosquitoes (in Europe)." I have never seen a mosquito in Europe. Perhaps Northern Ontarians should take Steyn and Maclean's to the Humor Rights Commission.
Actually, all Steyn did was quote imam Mullah Krekar:
ReplyDeleteThat claim certainly appears in my piece. But they're the words not of a notorious right-wing Islamophobic columnist but of a bigshot Scandinavian Muslim:
" 'We're the ones who will change you,' the Norwegian imam Mullah Krekar told the Oslo newspaper Dagbladet in 2006. 'Just look at the development within Europe, where the number of Muslims is expanding like mosquitoes. Every Western woman in the EU is producing an average of 1.4 children. Every Muslim woman in the same countries is producing 3.5 children.' "
Joanne, Thanks for the input. It certainly seems a lot of people leap to conclusions without properly informing themselves.
ReplyDeleteMé, Maybe you've hit on something with your last point about a "Humor Rights Commission". Human Rights Commissions are certainly a bad joke. We could all use a good laugh.
I loved George Jonas' column today too, although Steyn has a way of expressing himself that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
ReplyDeleteJonas is more cerebral, in my opinion.
Quoting nailed Jim Pankiw, Bill Whatcott and Hugh Owens.
ReplyDeleteCanada needs to be able to quote!
