The much-disputed mosque near Ground Zero has been described as a test
of our commitment to liberty. ... I think it is a test of our commitment to the
wrong question.... The question isn't whether people should be able to build whatever they like on their private properties. To this, the answer is a simple yes ... Except this isn't the question to ask about the Cordoba Initiative ... Described in news reports as a nonprofit organization whose stated goal is to promote cross-cultural understanding between Islam and the West
... The question to ask is: Can any group genuinely believe that building a mosque two blocks from where jihadists pulverized 3,000 New Yorkers nine years ago will promote cross-cultural understanding between Islam and the West?
... The answer to this question can no longer be yes for anyone non-delusional with a measurable IQ.
... So the question isn't whether Ground Zero's mosque-builders have a right to what they do, but is what they do right? The first is an obvious yes. The second, if you ask me, is a no.
... Certain plans are too insensitive and provocative to proceed from
anything but malice. Seeking to build a mosque and Islamic community centre two blocks from where the Twin Towers used to be "to promote understanding" can only be intended to add insult to injury.

Malicious Muslims
Great column by George Jonas:
Building that mosque represents victory for the jihadists. It's like saying "please don't bomb us again." The kind of thing they'd do in Toronto.
ReplyDeleteI hear it is NOT two blocks from ground zero but a block and a half from ground zero and the block was damaged by the satanic event on 9/11/01.
ReplyDeleteLet us not trivialise the location boys and girls. Where I live I would call it the next block over.
I heard this jerk on 640 Toronto trivialising the matter of building a mosque there by peaceful Muslims. Since when were Wahabi Muslims of Saudi Arabia been described as peaceful Muslims.
For non local listeners, this is the same radio station on which I hear Charles Adler. This Downs guy, who was standing in for someone else, should do a little research on the subject. Adler does, and other hosts on that station do too. Shame on Corus radio for airing this guy who obviously doesn't do his homework.
This Downs guy is the type of Toronto Star reader who give Torontonians a bad name.
By the way. I read George Jonas's column this morning as I read all of his columns. I even bought his book. For the edification of non Torontonians he spent most of his adult life in Toronto. Torontonians are not ALL gullible Toronto Star readers. Me too, although I started my family in the West and raided them in Ottawa I am still a Torontonian.
ReplyDeleteNoting the comments on the article there is a surprising number of gullible naifs and useful idiots boosting for the Islamists. One insisted on referring to the 13 storey $100 million project as "Muslim youth center".
ReplyDeleteHere's a question - when they call it a Muslim Youth Center, how many people do you think translate that as "suicide squad in training"? No matter how good their intentions may be, building a mosque at the foot of Ground Zero is not only offensive, it is poorly thought out. I don't think that you can build too many bridges between cultures when you're basically rubbing peoples noses in it.
ReplyDeleteHere's some background information.
