Another "Human Rights" travesty

Standup comic Guy Earle has been fined $15,000 by the dumbass BC "Human Rights" Kangaroo Tribunal  (full 107 page decision, summary).  The BCHRT found Earle (along with Zesty's Comedy Club owners - $7500 fine) guilty of violating lesbian Lorna Pardy's pseudo human right not to be offended. What a joke.

Israel's economic miracle

"If you go to the Middle East looking for oil you don't need to stop in Israel.  But if you go looking for brains, for energy, for integrity it's the only stop you need to make." - Warren Buffet

See this video also:

There are more Israeli companies on NASDAQ than all of Europe combined, more companies than all of India, China, Korea and Japan combined. ... There is more global venture capital going to Israel than to the United States (two and a half times) and 30 times as much as to Europe.
Israel is all about innovation and creativity.  It's neighbours are all about death and destruction. And the clowns behind the Canadian "Ship-of-Fools" to Gaza back the latter? Go figure.

Sun News Launch

OK! I've just tuned in to Shaw digital channel 177 and the Sun News channel is counting down to launch!

Update: Looking good! Levant, Lilley, Adler ... the whole crew are terrific.  It's obvious that the rest of the MSM (especially the CBC) will just detest Sun.  Great!

We'll have to come up with an acronym other than "MSM" for the media we love to hate because Sun News is now part of it (the MSM, that is, not the hated part).

Go Sun!

Libelous Liberals

Liberal TV ad [quote from the Globe and Mail attributed to Stephen Harper]: “It’s past time the feds scrapped the Canada Health Act.”

The Globe has retracted (editor's note) saying: "In fact, that statement was written by David Somerville, president of the NCC, in the June 1997 edition of The Bulldog. This online version has been corrected."

And so have the Liberals.

As Preston Manning often and accurately observed:
Fish swim,
Birds fly,
Liberals lie.

"Right-wing" Sun News Network

One of the fun things about the Sun News Network launch is watching the hyperventilating and schadenfreude at all the other media outlets.  Invariably they attach a "right-wing" or "Fox-News-North" moniker to the network.

"Right-wing", "Fox-North"? Geez, I hope so!

And I liked this in today's Post:
... a University of Maryland study concluded that regular viewers of Fox News were more "misinformed" than consumers of other media ...  [Heh. I'm sure that study had no biases :]
It's funny, you never hear these same clowns refer to the "left-wing" CBC and probably rarely if ever do they actually watch Fox News.

Urban plagues

National Post letter of the day:

Re: Urban? Rural? Progressive? It’s Difficult To Say, letter to the editor, April 13. Letter-writer Geoffrey Hale discussed the “urban/rural divide.” In Vancouver there is no such divide. Our city plagues include urban bears, urban coyotes, urban raccoons, urban skunks and urban socialists.

Sun News Network goes on the air tomorrow

Sun on facebook:
Here's an update on where you will be able to watch Sun News Network starting at 4:30 p.m. ET on Monday, April 18. ...
... Shaw Digital - Channel 177 ...
There's no sign of Sun News anywhere in my Shaw Cable listings.  I can get AlJazeera, BBC, CNN, CBC, CTV, Bloomberg, Fox News, but no Sun News.  WTF!

Update: Just found this at Sun's website (dated April 12th):
The upstart TV network, set to launch next week, announced that Shaw Communications Inc. will offer the news-and-talk television channel to all of its customers in Western Canada and Ontario for free when the channel debuts on April 18. [Then how come it ain't listed?]

Ignatieff's duplicity

David Frum parses Ignatieff's English debate attacks on Stephen Harper and finds duplicity on Israel:
... The word “Israel” does not appear in these remarks. Friends of Israel who want to vote Liberal can continue to remind themselves that Ignatieff condemned “Israel Apartheid Week” in a speech at the global anti-Semitism conference a year ago.
But people who follow the issues more closely will hear a very different message encoded in Ignatieff’s remarks.
Kairos and Canada’s Center for Human Rights and Democratic Development did not become notorious by “working in Africa.” They became notorious because of their attacks on Israel and their too-close associations with anti-Israel extremism....
Excellent column. Vote hustling "duplicity" is the Liberal default position on pretty much everything. It's "da' balanced approach".

Support Israel

From Glenn Beck's show last Friday:

Israel's former best ally has been looking pretty shaky since Obama came to office. In fact with all of Obama's Muslim outreach it looks more like the USA has gone to the other side. But, as Beck says in this video: "There are a lot of people working to change that. It'll take about two years."

Meanwhile, Israel deserves our support.

Attention Canadian Boat to Gaza!

Contrary to the claims of the Canadian Boat to Gaza (Ship of Useful Idiots) supporting the vile, genocidal Hamas:
... We aim to challenge the illegal Israeli actions
Gunter says: Wrong! A blockade is not illegal:
... blockades on the high seas have been perfectly acceptable for centuries, because once a threat enters your nation’s territorial waters, it’s already too late.

...  the Gazans, prior to the blockade being set up in 2006, routinely used the sea to smuggle in the weapons they deployed against Israel,

... there is no question of Israel's right to interdict Gaza-bound ships in international waters and ensure their cargo is food and supplies, rather than guns, bombs and rockets.

... The [Turkel] commission concluded that, "The naval blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip -in view of the security circumstances and Israel's efforts to comply with its humanitarian obligations - was legal pursuant to the rules of international law."
Here's wishing the Israelis a swift and successful blockade.

Iggy and Jack: crypto-commies

Here's my choice for National Post letter of the day:
Re: A Communist Party Manifesto for Canada, Miguel Figueroa, April 14.

Thank you for publishing Communist Party of Canada leader Miguel Figueroa's election platform. It is refreshing to see an honest politician proudly promote policies -such as expanded social programs, corporate tax increases and cancelled military investments -as communist. At least we now know where Michael Ignatieff and Jack Layton are coming from.

Neil Flagg, Toronto.
Right on Neil! Iggy and Jack may not be full-blown commies (yet) but if we followed their path to more and bigger government entitlement programs we'd get there eventually.

The Vancouver Sun's AGW obsession

Like most lib/left media outlets the Vancouver Sun never lets up on the "climate change" bunk.
Today it's bemoaning BC's being a laggard:
British Columbia and Ontario have become stragglers in the Western Climate Initiative and the ambitious plans of its member provinces and U.S. states to start carbon trading and reduce their collective emissions of greenhouse gases.

California, the initiative’s de facto leader, on Tuesday, reaffirmed its commitment to begin an aggressive cap-and-trade system for its carbon emissions starting in 2012...
Get real, Sun.  California is near bankruptcy and it's idiotic nonsense like this that's driving it there. The more BC "straggles" on this the better off we'll be.

And some bad news

One million brainwashed children to march in May:

As FOS puts it:
From May 7-14 one million young people from all over the world are to participate in the iMatter March in an attempt to convince us that trace amounts of a natural, harmless, invisible gas will kill them all.

Some good news from the "climate" front

Bloomberg News:
The U.S. government’s lead envoy on climate change said the United Nations talks aimed at negotiating a binding treaty to curb global warming are based on “unrealistic” expectations that are “not doable.”
Deep divisions at climate summit:

Kyoto's future remains uncertain.

Debate night

4:10 PM PST
Why am I watching this? Because I'm a masochist, that's why!
It's the coalition against Stephen Harper.  The three of them each get a turn hammering him, repeatedly calling him a liar.
Mr. Harper looks calm and composed and responds competently and politely.

Iggy is pained and angry looking and shrill sounding, hectoring and lecturing Harper on his "dishonesty".  Though he's got a few more hand motions and eyebrow lifts to supplement his thumb pointing.  Stephen looks back at him with a patient smile :)

Layton accuses Harper of calling the coalition names.  Pot, kettle?

OK, I've had enough. I'm out'a here!

Iggy - the least Canadian candidate ever

Michael Ignatieff's candidacy for PM is somewhere between weird and outrageous:
- he spent nearly his entire adult life in Britain and the USA
- his wife, Zsuzsanna Zsohar, isn't a Canadian citizen
- he reportedly voted Labour in the UK and claimed he was voting for Kerry in the US
- he criticized and mocked Canada during his long absence.
And now he wants to be Prime Minister?  He's got to be Joking!

Religion of Peace (Canuck branch) uses ex-KKK boss to promote anti-Zionism

From Sassy Wire and Blazing Cat Fur we learn that the CASMO (Canadian Shia Muslims (sic) Organization) website features a YouTube video bidding good-riddance to "Zionist Running Dog" Hosni Mubarak.   The video narration is by that loveable former KKK Grand Wizard, David Duke

Meanwhile Xanthippa notes that the National Post's Stewart Bell 'broke' the story a week later than Sassy without acknowledgement.  On the good news side of that, at least the Post printed the story. How many other MSM outlets did?

David Suzuki off his meds again/still?

Lubos Motl points to a recent interview with David Suzuki who apparently is still "huddling and weeping in despair with his wife" over the fate of Mother Earth:
The interview recalls lots of crazy things from Suzuki's life but the peak of the interview is reached when the interviewer asks Suzuki how he does it that he doesn't despair, despite the continuous failures of the plans to regulate the climate. The answer suggests Suzuki might be more than just another corrupt crook and liar of Gore's type: he could actually suffer from a classifiable psychiatric disorder.
Seems to me I've heard that "huddling, despairing, weeping" line before.

How goes the war in Libya?

Mark Steyn:

... if you wanted to devise a forlorn emblem of the impotence of the hyperpower, this non-war for non-victory is hard to beat.
From the comments: I suppose the strategy is to keep Ahmandinijad, Kim Jong-il and Hugo Chavez laughing at us so hard they won't have the energy to do anything else.
That's about it.

Global non-warming 101

*Dr David Evans’ address to the Anti-Carbon-Tax rally, Perth Australia, 23 March 2011:
...  I am a scientist who was on the carbon gravy train, understands the evidence,  was once an alarmist, but am now a skeptic.

... The whole idea that carbon dioxide is the main cause of the recent global warming is based on a guess that was proved false by empirical evidence during the 1990s. .... At this point official “climate science” stopped being a science.

... Official climate science, which is funded and directed entirely by government, promotes a theory that is based on a guess about moist air that is now a known falsehood. Governments gleefully accept their advice, because the only way to curb emissions are to impose taxes and extend government control over all energy use. And to curb emissions on a world scale might even lead to world government — how exciting for the political class!
... Finally, to those of you who still believe the planet is in danger from our carbon dioxide emissions: sorry, but you’ve been had. Yes carbon dioxide a cause of global warming, but it’s so minor it’s not worth doing much about.
_____________________________________________________________
* Dr David Evans consulted full-time for the Australian Greenhouse Office (now the Department of Climate Change) from 1999 to 2005, and part-time 2008 to 2010, modeling Australia’s carbon in plants, debris, mulch, soils, and forestry and agricultural products. Evans is a mathematician and engineer, with six university degrees including a PhD from Stanford University in electrical engineering. The area of human endeavor with the most experience and sophistication in dealing with feedbacks and analyzing complex systems is electrical engineering, and the most crucial and disputed aspects of understanding the climate system are the feedbacks. The evidence supporting the idea that CO2 emissions were the main cause of global warming reversed itself from 1998 to 2006, causing Evans to move from being a warmist to a skeptic.

Count Iggy

Mark Steyn on Count Iggy's run for the prize:

It's election time in Canada, so this may be the last chance I have to mock Michael Ignatieff's ill-fated venture into politics before he returns to the halls of academe or the green rooms of the BBC. ...
Update (as suggested by Edmund in the comments):

Wind farm inefficiency

WUWT looks at a UK wind farm study:

Government/industry advertised wind farm efficiency:

“Wind turbines will generate on average 30% of their rated capacity over a year.”
John Muir Trust [ a green trust] study results for UK wind farms:
* below 20% of capacity more than half the time;

* below 10% of capacity over one third of the time;
"Sustainable" energy sources are proving to be economically and politically unsustainable. Premier McGuinty et al take note.

"Fight Back USA! A National Teach-in"

Today's the day for Fight Back USA! hosted by radical leftist loons Frances Fox Piven and Cornel West.  Over 200 participating colleges, universities and high schools - the incubators of  dumb socialist ideas and their radical promoters (eg Piven and West).

"Fight Back" from what to what? From the wealth spawned by capitalism to the inevitable poverty of a socialism that Americans never had (or wanted)?

Religion of Peace vs Pastor Jones and free speech

Lorne Gunter's take on Afghans' Islamo-murderous reaction to Pastor Terry Jones' Koran burning:
... Jones should be ignored. ... Politicians should denounce him, and editors and producers should deprive him of the oxygen (media coverage) that stokes his demented brain. But those who suggest Jones is a bigger villain than the rioters who have taken lives over a book burning – any book burning – are looking at this issue through the wrong end of the telescope.
I agree with much of  Gunter's column.  But that last part (Jones should be ignored, etc ...), good advice though it may be, is somewhat weakened by having spent his first three paragraphs publicly denouncing Jones.

Meanwhile, others see Jones' actions as a free speech issue and take Republican Senator Lindsay Graham to task for saying of Jones:
"I wish we could find some way to hold people accountable."
From the comments: "Jones is an idiot and Graham is competing with him for the title."
Mark Steyn weighs in:
"... Lindsey Graham is unfit for office. The good news is there’s no need for the excitable lads of Mazar e-Sharif to chop his head off because he’s already walking around with nothing up there. ..."
... A society led by such “men” cannot survive, and does not deserve to.
And again to Graham's "embarassing" response to the above criticism:

... The guy “putting the troops at risk” here is Senator Graham, and General Petraeus and the other advocates of the one-way multiculti danse macabre. They’re telling our enemies the more you tread on our toes the more we’ll pretend not to notice and try to waltz you gaily round the floor one more time.
Pre-emptive capitulation only invites more and more provocations. Like the Arabs say, a falling camel attracts many knives.

Truckers' nightmare - green regulatory bullcrap

Here's part of the relevant bullcrap:
... in California, diesel PM [particulate matter] contributes each year to approximately 2,000 premature deaths ... [A bogus, weasel worded statistic. They couldn't produce a single dead body that can be attributed to that cause.]

Fighting AGW is anti-Canadian

In today's Post Terence Corcoran wrote a satirical April Fools take-off on the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy.  In it he covers a report from the "National Roundtable on Canada’s Future as a Hot Green Economy":
... in a preliminary report titled Let the Warm-Up Begin, finds Canada has nothing to fear from future increases in temperature. “We’ll have trees in the tundra, balmy beaches in Hudson’s Bay, oranges in Ontario and tulips in Tuktoyaktuk,” said the report.
... “We could lose most of Prince Edward Island and much of Nova Scotia if the sea level rises as expected,” said Ms. LaChauffage, “but our research shows the benefits of climate change to Canada as a whole far outweigh the costs.”
... The loss of P.E.I. as a province seems certain. Nova Scotia would be cut off from the mainland. “Goodbye to Nova Scotia” is a chapter heading.
Hilarious!  It's the opposite of the actual "Round Table" position.  But, April Fools aside, the fake report's general viewpoint that any warming is likely to be economically beneficial to Canada is true. This really should be Canada's official default position. The alternative scenario is the onset of a new ice-age which some say is due in the not-so-distant future. For Canada an ice-age is the ultimate doomsday scenario. It has happened before and when it happens again all traces of civilization will be completely destroyed - crushed and scraped away by kilometer deep glaciers.  The precautionary principle dictates that we do everything possible to avoid this ;)

As well as letting us reap the immediate direct economic benefits of warming, AGW could well forestall a new ice-age. So, accepting AGW as proven (as it is now by every level of government and environmental dupe in the country), rather than fighting it we should all be vigorously promoting a bigger carbon footprint. In fact, fighting AGW is grossly anti-Canadian.
