Viewers have sent in more than 4,350 complaints since the interview aired on the Sun News program Canada Live on June 1. The CBSC receives on average 2,000 complaints in total in any given year.
Ms. Erickson challenged Ms. Gillis to explain why artists like her deserve public funding. ...
... the company [SNN] pointed out that a campaign was launched on Facebook, encouraging people to complain about the interview.Good show Krista! I wouldn't be surprised if Margaret Atwood organized that blowback to the CBSC. Anyway, here's the interview:
Note Krista's tastefully long sleeves (compared to Margie's). Think there'll be any lefty comments about 'skanky dresses'?
Update: Here's Hunter's take, BC Blue's and SDA's today and yesterday. Brian Lilley with Ezra today.
Well now, having given this tempest in a teapot a bit more thought, I think I should perhaps also complain about Krista's interviewing style. After all she did refer to swan hands as an artist, and that is really going too far.
ReplyDeleteOn a more serious note it is astounding how these groups and individuals think they have some divine right to our money. I don't care how silly or ridiculous they wish to express their "artistic" side, provided they do it on their own dime or have enough people willing to pay for it.
I watched the interview live. Krista gave a tough interview and Margie Gillis held her own to the best of her ability. It was quite an informative interview, but not anything near worthy of complaint.
ReplyDelete4,350 complaints?
ReplyDeleteThey've already received their grant for this year.
Next year not so sure.........
Erickson was set up by Gillis' arts community. The 4500 complaints to an agency that usually gets about 2000 complaints per YEAR, make that pretty obvious.
ReplyDeleteDidn't appreciate Erickson's arm waving interview style, but Gillis was one big load of bafflegab. Her claim to interpretive dance helping world peace is nonsensical and outrageously egotistical.
Gillis confirmed what many of us already thought about arts grants;a waste of taxpayer's money, welfare by another name.
I got a kick out of Gillis' remark about money for "research".
ReplyDeleteIt's iterpretive "dance" for fux sake! What is there to research?
"Gee if I sit on my ass & wave my hand like this instead of that I might get a bigger grant."
Well, if the lefties can muster 4000 complaints against the interview, we should be able to send 400,000 letters of complaint to our MPs protesting funding of this sort of nonsense through tax dollars.
ReplyDeleteWith the US default looming, it is time for us to jettison all useless tax expenditures and get ready for a real economic storm. Margie Gillis provides a great place to start the cutting.
Who is Maggie Gillis? Never heard of her before.
ReplyDeleteThe last time I paid money to watch "interpretive dance" the women weren't wearing any clothes.
ReplyDeleteThese conceited, self-absorbed artistes seem to believe Canadians owe them a free lunch. Plain and simple--if your artistic endeavors can't pay for themselves perhaps you may have to lower yourself to doing commercial work. I know...it's so demeaning, but most of the public has to toil at tasks for which they think they are over-qualified. But that's life.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I thought Gillis held her own too. So why should anyone bellyache about the interview. But then we all know how the arts "community" likes to circle the wagons.
ReplyDeleteAlso, no one I asked knew who Margie Gillis was. I've never heard of her either. So, really, what does make her worth $1.2 million in gov't grants?
Loving it!
ReplyDeleteAbout time someone held their feet to the fire.
One of the biggest deflections was Gillis trying to spread 1.2 million in government funding over 35 years rather than 13. What I would be curious about is how much Gillis or her foundation has received in grants and awards PRIOR to 1998.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad that Krista couldn't have got that information prior to the interview so that she could point out that it was XX million over 35.
Maybe we should all be writing in lauding the interview. Should be able to get at least 4000 through the Blogging Tories.
ReplyDeleteif Erickson had of been grilling a minister as to why they didn't get their funding the so called arts community would have said how courageous she was
ReplyDeleteFrances has an excellent point. Tell the CBSC what a great job Krista Erickson did in her interview. EXCEPT, they only have a form to accept "complaints" and if you use that form they'll likely ignore it since, according to CBSC, they're overloaded and don't want anymore input.
ReplyDeleteIf every one of those 4350 folks on her Facebook page donated just...
ReplyDeleteIdiots support idiots, so of course the lefties all got together in a mob as they always do when someone dares to oppose their moronic lefty way of thinking. They believe that they outnumber us just because they're louder. The fact is we just don't feel the need to scream and throw temper tantrums when something doesn't go our way. Being cool headed and logical beats overreacting psycho emotion any day.
