A magnitude 6.4 quake struck off of northern Vancouver Island at 12:41 PDT. The only noticeable effects at our home in South Surrey were a swaying dining room chandelier and a pair of slightly spooked cats. Otherwise we felt no tremours as were reported in downtown Vancouver and as far away as Kelowna.
That's probably the provincial Libs - Cracking up!
ReplyDeleteNo worries there.
I am in Vancouver today. I didn't feel anything.
ReplyDeleteDidn't feel anything in Sidney. Daughter phoned to make sure we were ok. She heard about quake in Calgary before I did and sited CNN as her source - so much for the warning system!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Dr Roy to Vancouver - enjoy your stay.

ReplyDeleteI asked my girlfriend if she felt tremors this morning and she just told me to get over myself.
ReplyDeleteDidn't notice it in the Tri-cities, I'm afraid.
I felt it I live in powell river and it was slight at that but I felt it and saw the lights moving.
ReplyDeleteI kinda got dizzy a bit is all. kinda neat.
Saw it in the paper today with opening sentence "Many regions of British Columbia were shaken..." and then on to mention only a few places on the island and Vancouver - lower Fraser Valley. Hadn't heard of Kelowna feeling it, but still think the 'many' an exaggeration except for those who think BC is Vancouver Island, the lower mainland, and - maybe - the Okanagan.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, glad minimal damage to either people or property.
I think to have noticed it in the lower mainland you had to have been high up in a tall building. Otherwise the only clues were the media reports.
ReplyDeleteI live less than 40 miles from the epicenter. I really felt it!
ReplyDeleteLasted about 30 seconds or so and the power went out before the shaking stoppped.
I was at my computer at the time and had to grab my monitor to make sure it wouldn't end up on the floor. Didn't even think to grab my video camera which was literally at my feet in my camera bag until after the shaking stopped.
There was no damage that I am aware of, but I did find my shampoo bottle laying in the tub today.
