"Our food system is broken"

Absolute bollocks:
Canada has the dubious distinction of being the first wealthy nation to face a probe by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to food. ...

... "What we can say about Canada is that our food system is broken," said Diana Bronson, executive director of Food Secure Canada. ...
What nonsense! Why is the UN wasting valuable time and money on this?  Because that's what the UN does!

Canada's food system is as close to impeccable as one can find anywhere in the world. Food is cheap and plentiful in every conceivable variety and conveniently available in stores and markets everywhere. People can grow their own. Where individuals or families lack resources there are many food banks and other charitable sources of food to help out. It takes an extraordinary effort on the part of a very dysfunctional person to go without.

There must be some other agenda afoot here. Oh, I know, the GOVERNMENT needs to be more involved.  If the objective is to screw up the food system that's the best way to do it.

  1. NDP Charlie Angus wrote an open letter to the UN *inviting* them to come see the horrific conditions some Canadians are forced to live in (BS) … of course all he was doing was try to score points by bashing the elected Gov't. As Canadians - we should all be absolutely outraged at this kind of BS.
I am really getting sick & tired of opposition members going around & bashing Canada on the world stage, thankfully - we have a PM who is dam proud of Canada & at least we know we can count on him to stand up for this great country of ours.
The outrage isn't even in the fact that the UN is *investigating* Canada … that we can scoff at - the outrage should be aimed at those who have asked/*invited*/ requested? for the UN to step in …

    It's sickening.

  3. If you want to reduce the cost of food (and thus improve access), then eliminate the milk, egg, chicken (etc.) marketing boards.

  4. "Amen" to all that.
I should have known that Canada was "targeted" on the invitation of some glass-half-empty NDP alarm monger besmirching his country's reputation. Angus and his ilk are a disgrace, as is the UN. And yes those commie marketing boards are an insult to free markets and should be shut down.

  5. Anony is correct. Canadians pay 4 times as much as they should for essentials like milk, eggs and cheese. A lot of seniors consider a chunk ordinary cheddar a luxury item.

    Too true.

  7. Charlie Angus lives to embarrass the government, and seems to have no problem going around the world telling outright lies about Canada.

Food production is doing just fine, though we COULD do without Marketing Boards,a socialist construct Angus must love.

And some of our Native Reserves are in tough shape, especially the ones in Angus's Riding, about which he's done very little except try to use the situation for his own purposes.

But overall,we're in pretty good shape in Canada,a lot better then we would be with an NDP government in place federally.
