Why Barack Obama should resign

He violated his oath of office:
... [From the LA Times]: “Just after midnight Saturday morning, authorities descended on the Cerritos home of the man believed to be the filmmaker behind the anti-Muslim movie that has sparked protests and rioting in the Muslim world.”

When taking office, the President does not swear to create jobs. He does not swear to “grow the economy.” He does not swear to institute “fairness.” The only oath the President takes is this one:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
By sending — literally — brownshirted enforcers to engage in — literally — a midnight knock at the door of a man for the non-crime of embarrassing the President of the United States and his administration, President Obama violated that oath.  ... It is a betrayal of his duties as President, and a disgrace. ...

  1. Laying it on a bit thick, don't you think? Doubt Obama had anything to do with it directly. Not sure how the video is directly embarrasing to POTUS either. Not to mention that the guy who made the video was convicted for fraud, and may have violated his parole conditions by posting the video in the first place. Is the midnight visit by authorities politically motivated? I'd venture a yes, however, they have both legitimate and legal cause.

  2. I have to agree with the "anon" comments above, this isn't the direct responsibility of Obama.

However, if the Republicans re on the ball, they will use this image,of the Brown Shirts arresting an American citizen,to smear Obama, just like the Dems would if the situation was reversed.

Nothing's fair in politics, and this image sure lends itself to a propaganda message.

  3. The MSM are so in the tank for the Empty Chair that nothing that is outside the script will be shown. In this case, it's nothing to do with US Policy and everything to do with an 8 month old U-Tube video, in spite of direct words from the organizers that its about the Blind Sheik (sp?)

  4. True, Obama didn't directly apologize for the video. However:
    (1) his state department did, albeit preemptively.
    (2) he didn't "to the best of his ability ... preserve, protect and defend the Constitution". He did not vigorously defend the first amendment in this instance. He didn't speak out in defence of "Sam Bacile's" rights or condemn or even criticize his midnight arrest. In fact:
    (3) his administration consistently and knowingly deceived the public by claiming that the events of 9/11 were caused by directly the video's publication.
    (4) he was mostly absent in the leadup to and during the events of 9/11 - hardly conducting himself "to the best of his ability".
    (5) he has a long history of apologizing for America.
    (6) he and his administration have been sending messages to friends and foes alike that make America look weak and confused.

If this is "the best of his ability" then he should surely resign. In November Americans should force his resignation.

See updates to the Instapundit piece for some additional commentary.

To your point about that midnight arrest photo providing great fodder for a smear campaign here are some suggested captions.

  5. Hi JR,

Could you explain some of your points, because I don't know the context of your claims. Namely points:

    2. I find it odd that a self-proclaimed libertarian as yourself would want a sitting President to turn the freedom of expression into a positive right. You would want the government to 'do something' regarding the first amendment? Because the whole point of the first amendment, as a negative right, is for the government not to interfere..i.e. do nothing, allow citizens to speak freely without fear or comment, be it critism or approval. Furthermore, why would POTUS speak about just one more investigation among thousands that take place in the country.

    3. Who? I don't follow this line of thought.

    4. Are you talking about Obama?
    5. Context?
    6. Perhaps, but some would argue that's a question of political bias.

Not sure why a 'smear campaign' would be in the best interest of Americans but I would humbly suggest that the RP won't touch this due to the fact they would in the end be defending a known convict.

  6. Hi Anon,

    Sure. No problem.

    2. Be serious. This has nothing to do with positive or negative rights. American free speech is protected by the US Constitution which the President is duty bound to defend. A minimum response in its defence in the face of Muslim protests and attacks would have been a statement from the President that the First Amendment expresses a core freedom for all Americans including "Sam Bacile" and if foreign governments fail to protect American embassies and their staffs there will be hell to pay. What was the Obama administration's response? A hand-wringing apology and statement of how horrible they thought the video was. Some defence! They continue with this pathetic line of "defence" to this day.

    3. Obviously you haven't been paying attention.

    4. Of course.

    5. See 3.

    6. Perhaps, but it's a widely held opinion.

Well, if a smear campaign (similar to on-going smears by Democrats) helps rid America of Obama's presidency in 2012 then it's certainly in America's (not to mention the world's) best interests.
