IRFAN had it's charitable status revoked in 2011.In 2012 it sponsored the Reviving Islam Conference which featured Justin Trudeau as a speaker.

Robocall "scandal" officially over - Elections Canada declares "nothing to see here"
Ezra sums up three years of anti-Harper derangement:
Update [via a link from the comments]: Here's Greg Renouf's (GenuiNEWitty) very detailed account of the who was behind the fraudulent promotion of the Robocall affair as a "scandal". Some teasers:

... I saw an event posted on Facebook by a man named Jon Allan, a meeting to plan a protest.
... Walking into the meeting, one would never had expected it was anything but grassroots.
... as time passed and the first protest came to fruition, it quickly became obvious I was observing an AstroTurf fraud.
... When Libby Davies warned us about “American style dirty politics”, she wasn’t kidding us- only, the tricks she was referring to were coming from her own side! Just like their smaller sibling LeadNow, MoveOn.org has been conducting the same type of anti-robocall campaigns in the US.

The Psychology of Anti-Capitalism
Peter Foster's new book "Why We Bite the Invisible Hand: The Psychology of Anti-Capitalism" has been excerpted in the National Post:
Available at Amazon.com (but, oddly, not at Amazon.ca).
Socialism’s die-hard true believers;
Biting the (invisible) hand that feeds us; and
Book review here - looks like a great read!

Another slow news day - so let's stoke the climate scare
Vancouver Sun, front page, above the fold:
VANCOUVER — British Columbia Environment Ministry staff have warned
their minister that the province’s dreamed-of liquefied natural gas
industry poses some big challenges with greenhouse gas emissions.
... Internal briefing notes prepared for Environment Minister Mary Polak ... single out methane emissions for concern.
... emissions remain a hurdle for the provinces, which has legislated
targets for reductions. Legislation dictates that emissions are to be
reduced by at least a third below 2007 levels by 2020. ...
Okay, I know that politics demands that Ms Polak at least nod in the direction of the climate hysterics, but it's long past time to be realistic.
Even IF there's a chance that "warming" is a problem, and it's a mighty big IF, nothing that BC (or Canada) does to limit GHGs (even limiting them to absolute zero) will have any measurable effect on global climate. The mere increase in China's annual emissions is enough to swamp Canada's (and 10 times BC's) entire annual output. Then there's India. Then there's the rest of the developing world. Then ...
Polak's (or her eco-bureaucrats') apparent concerns are a drop in Canada's bucket and the world's ocean of emissions. It is not worth the sacrifice of one BC job to pursue what are at best symbolic gestures towards avoiding that big, remote IF.

Suzuki calls for "a war on cars"
there is no war on cars — but there should be:
... We can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by cutting back on car use, choosing fuel-efficient vehicles, joining a car pool or sharing program and reducing speed. ...Hands up, how many think that Suzuki would actually do any of that himself?
Now the Green Gestapo are coming after your meatballs
James Delingpole:
IKEA ... are considering changing the recipe of their most popular food line - meatballs - in order to help save the world from global warming:As evidence of warming wanes, the climate nuttery worsens.
... "On methane...we are aware of the meat issue with greenhouse gases. We are looking at all our food products from a sustainability perspective but specifically meatballs. They are very popular and they are also our most carbon-intensive food item on our menu."... IKEA actually admits to allowing the kind of food it serves in its restaurants to be dictated not by the needs of its customers - who order 150 million plates of meatballs every year - but by activists from a hard-left environmental NGO like the World Wildlife Fund. That's not capitalism. That's not customer service. That's eco fascism.
... As Donna Laframboise has often noted, WWF activism is rife at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) too.

Shocking new phenomenon: HuffPo admits global cooling
James Delingpole:
Scientists believe they have discovered a near-unprecedented phenomenon - rarer, more elusive and mysterious than even the God Particle: an article in The Huffington Post on the subject of the environment and climate change which doesn't once mention 'man-made global warming."...Classic Delingpole (who, btw, is no longer with the Telegraph).
... How can this possibly be?" asked Professor Otto Spengler of the University of East Anglia's Department of Environmentalist Bullshit Studies.
... Professor Spengler and his team have been working through the night to try to analyse the phenomenon and have come up with two competing theories. 1. It's a terrible accident.... ,or 2. There has been an incredible, tectonic shift in HuffPo's understanding of the world. ...
"But we think the first explanation is more likely," added Prof Spengler.
"The HuffPo - like the Guardian and the BBC - doesn't really do science because the readers find it upsetting. ... [Predictably the HuffPo comment thread on its article is crammed with "deniers" - of global cooling, that is.]
Elections Canada's "conflict of interest"
Senator Linda Frum in the Globe and Mail:
Frum with with BrianLilley:
“Elections Canada should not have a vested interest in recording a high voter turnout. That’s a conflict.”
I tweeted those words last week. They set off a Twitter storm that may yet contribute to a better understanding of Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s government’s effort to enhance the integrity of Canada’s voting system with the implementation of Bill C-23.
... Elections Canada is a bureaucracy with two missions: to ensure the integrity of the voting process and also to promote voter turnout. Those two missions are contradictory. You want the biggest vote total? Accept every ballot. You want to eliminate voter fraud? Eliminating improper ballots may reduce vote totals.
... In the war of words over Bill C-23, opponents have hurled the ugly accusation that this government is engaged in voter suppression. The truth is quite the opposite: It is those who corrupt the voting process – and who ought to be the focus of Elections Canada enforcement – who suppress the valid votes of lawful voters.
Frum with with BrianLilley:
In defense of the Fair Elections Act
'Mainstream' media' pundits are nearly unanimous in their opposition to the Tory Fair Election Act. Their obsessive, near hysterical attacks leave a strong impression of collusion. Ezra Levant and guest, Gerald Chipeur, offer some common sense rebuttal:

Ukraine - CF fighters deployed to Europe
Today PM Harper committed to the deployment of six F-18s to Europe in response to NATO's call for help. This adds to similar deployments from the USA:
... The Americans have so far sent 18 F-15 and F-16 jets to the region, which risked getting embroiled in a wider conflict Thursday after Russian President Vladimir Putin won approval to use armed force in eastern Ukraine if necessary on the pretext of protecting ethnic Russians.A step in the right direction, but still insufficient to deter Putin.

The origins of the conservative temperament
In an excerpt from his new book, "Enlightment 2.0", Joseph Heath gives two examples illustrating the "hubris of modern rationalism", saying:
... the conservative temperament was born, as a defence of tradition against the tendency of Enlightenment rationalism to take things apart without knowing how to put them back together again, much less improve them. [It occurs to me that another example of modern hyper-rational hubris at work can be found in the scientific claims of climate alarmism.]Heath's idea's were a constant theme in Friedrich Hayek's writing. His book should be a good read.

A liberal win in Calgary
The only way for liberals to win in Alberta is to pose as conservatives. Ron Liepert won the federal Conservative nomination in the new riding of Calgary Signal Hill. The CBC seems happy as do many of it's readers, so what does that tell you?

Brian's green blarney
Peter Foster:
Buzz off Brian, you've had your chance. And, haven't you heard, it's exceedingly bad form to bad-mouth a fellow Prime Minister.
Brian Mulroney’s speech earlier this week to Canada 2020 – a “progressive” group of PR/government advisory types who pretend to chart the country’s future – presumably involved walking a fine pipeline.
... he leavened his recommendations with an attack on Mr. Harper’s leadership on energy and climate issues.
... shouldn’t the man who dismantled the National Energy Program be a little more skeptical about grand strategies?
... it was Mr. Mulroney, by his early promotion of climate catastrophe, and his cuddling up to the subversive issue of sustainable development, who in many ways created the bed of policy nails on which Mr. Harper is forced to lie.
... Mr. Mulroney promoted the kinds of toxic policies with whose consequences Mr. Harper has had to struggle, accusing our current PM of lack of vision amounts go to green gall in more ways than one.
Buzz off Brian, you've had your chance. And, haven't you heard, it's exceedingly bad form to bad-mouth a fellow Prime Minister.
Fair Elections Act - media hyperventilating
Andrew Coyne and his fellow Media Party partisans (and liberal "experts") continue their hysterical campaign to discredit changes that amount mostly to common sense administrative minutiae in the electoral process. Arguably, the biggest issue in their litany of gripes, disallowing the practice of vouching, rises above the level of minutiae. But even if, as they claim, there is little evidence of its having been fraudulently used, vouching is wide open to fraud and so should be banned. Banning it is a no-brainer. Vouching is not permitted in either Ontario or Quebec elections (over 60% of Cdn voters) - have Coyne et al ever hyperventilated about this travesty? Didn't think so.
Ezra Levant's rebuttal of the hysteria highlights the 2006 election result for the Sask. riding of Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River - a razor-thin defeat of an incumbent Conservative by a Liberal. Vouching was involved at an Indian reserve where more than 100% voter turnout was observed and a big-screen TV raffled "to get out the Liberal vote" (all laughed off by Elections Canada "investigators").

Global warming alarmists try to reposition fear as fact
... The key climate science question for policymakers and citizens is not whether anthropogenic global warming is real but whether, in Al Gore’s words, climate change is “a planetary emergency — a crisis that threatens the survival of civilization and the habitability of the Earth.” The climate alarm narrative was not a “fact” in 1991 and certainly is not today.
Mounting evidence indicates that the climate is substantially less sensitive (reactive) to greenhouse gas emissions than “consensus” science had assumed. ... the climate trilogy of terror – ocean circulation collapse, rapid ice sheet disintegration, and runaway climate change (the methane “bomb”) – has far less scientific plausibility today than it did in 1991.
Gore and other climate campaigners have been trying for decades to reposition fear as fact. Their j’accuse directed at skeptics is Orwellian. ...
