Why are there more male scientists and mathematicians?
Well, that seems pretty reasonable. But maybe the Factual Feminist hasn't caught up with the latest gender theories. For example, that "there's no such thing as biological sex."

BLM insanity afflicts Catholic University
The president of the largest Roman Catholic University in America refused a conservative student group's request to post pro-life posters because it would constitute "bigotry ... under the cover of free speech."
Despite the fact that "Black Lives Matter" posters hang on the very windows of the administrative offices at Chicago-based DePaul University, President Reverend Dennis H. Holtschneider banned posters reading "Unborn Lives Matter," a message much more in keeping with Catholic teaching on the sanctity of human life, from conception to natural death. ...When po-mo, pc identity politics start infecting the thinking at Catholic universities you know the culture war is being lost. President Holtshneider has defected to the enemy's side. Though it would appear that this has been happening for some time. And considering some of Pope Francis's rhetoric on global warming and capitalism, the entire Catholic Church is lurching in that direction.

Gary McHale, a true Canadian hero
Gary McHale is a true hero;
Dalton McGuinty is a despicable, law-ignoring (if not law-breaking) weasel;
The OPP are contemptible enforcers of McGuinty's banana-republic lawlessness;
Julian Fantino - see OPP above;
Tim Hudack is a cowardly political weasel;
Stephen Harper should be ashamed of himself for appointing Fantino to his cabinet.

Front page flakes
... A Toronto couple says it is trying to raise a genderless child, refusing to reveal baby Storm’s sex to encourage a more neutral approach to the infant.
Hiding the four-month-old’s sex from the outside world is a “tribute to freedom and choice” that they hope will let Storm grow up unfettered by the values of others, Kathy Witterick and David Stocker have been quoted as saying. [Typical, unrealistic progressive nuttery - unwilling to accept the laws of nature and convinced that social engineering will bring their utopia.]From Barbara Kay:
Close observers ... are especially troubled that Storm’s two brothers have been co-opted into collusion with the scheme and, well-rehearsed, assiduously self-monitor their own discourse about “Z,” the neutral replacement for “he” or “she.” [Neither "he" nor "she" but "Zed"?]
... Free will has its limitations. One such limitation is human biology. The denial of biological reality by highly educated, but humanly naive “progressives” — and their choice to privilege the “world” over the needs and rights of their own children — speaks more to their narcissism than to their idealism. [I'd say 'over-educated' - ie. educated beyond their capacity to understand.]
... This misguided couple needs intervention before their adult folie à deux becomes a children’s tragedy à trois.Interesting, but front page?

A giant waste of time and money
gassed on about (a) saving the planet from global warming and (b) making sure Canadians don’t "waste" water, even though:
Perhaps they haven't read the memo, the climate climate has gotten colder. Nor, I'd wager, have they kept up on recent research which, in part, concludes:(a) Canada’s contribution to global GHG emissions is negligible (assuming "GHGs" are a problem to begin with), and;
(b) Canada has the world’s largest supply of fresh water which might explain why we’re big users of the stuff. Apparently we have to wear a hair shirt because desert dwellers need to get by with less.
Climate scientists have greatly underestimated the uncertainty of proxy based reconstructions and hence have been overconfident in their models. Which means, one commenter says: "ie. they've done it wrong, and then oversold it."[via FOS]

The "light-skinned Negro"
And, as this guy writes:... any Republican Senate Majority Leader who started musing on such matters would be dark-skinned toast in nothing flat.
... You can talk about how light-skinned and clean the Negro is and that's perfectly okay as long as you support the president's policies or (as Mr. Obama put it in his acceptance of Reid's apology) "social justice." But, if you go along to a town-hall meeting and say you oppose the health-care bill because you're very concerned at what you hear about waiting times for MRIs in Canada, you're obviously a knuckledragging racist who's itching to string that uppity Negro from the nearest tree.
... Hmm. This proves once and for all that Bill Clinton was the first black president because I opposed Hillarycare, too.

Segregating Canada - the first Africentric school
"West African drummers"? "Black National Anthem"?... west African drummers were warming up for the opening assembly, where children sang O Canada as well as the Black National Anthem ...
The Black National Anthem is of African-American origin and, along with expressions of hope and faith, recalls the harsh experience of black American slaves:
That song may be relevant in American schools. It may even be a worthwhile element of Canadian school courses covering the history of American slavery. But it makes no sense at all to sing it in Canadian school opening ceremonies on an equal footing with the Canadian national anthem.[...]
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us,
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; ...
[...]
We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered,
Out from the gloomy past ......Stony the road we trod,
Bitter the chast'ning rod,
[...]
God of our weary years,
God of our silent tears,
[...]
Also:
Today's opening assembly began with a traditional African "libation" ceremony, where children watched water poured in memory of their ancestors. They also learned to respond to statements with the Yoruba word "Ashe!" (Amen!)I shudder to think what the school curriculum looks like.
How are these kids supposed to develop a cohesive Canadian identity? How much Canadian history will they get?
And what’s next, [your ethno/racial identity here]-centric schools? How about a whites-only school for those who feel their whiteness is under-appreciated?
If people of whatever ethnic origin want to study "their people’s" history and culture, fine. If it’s important enough to parents and/or their "community" they should provide it at home or in community sponsored courses and activities. It happens all the time in other ethnic communities. But setting up segregated schools pandering to specific ethnic identities will just further Balkanize the country.
Let’s face it, the segregated school concept is just nuts - it's asking for trouble.

Cambridge cops support their own in Obama-Gates affair
"I supported him [Obama], I voted for him, I will not again."
Update: Kathy Shaidle agrees with Ed Morrisey that "Gates should have stood on civil liberties, not race" and he would have provided a "teaching moment".
Sure, and if my dear old Aunt Lois had wheels she'd be a bus. Gates is a race baiter, so his first instinct was to get his back up about "racist cops". Had Gates not been Gates he might have used ordinary common sense and cooperated with Crowley who was there to protect his home from a suspected burglary in progress. In which case, Obama wouldn't have been suckered into defending his pal's race baiting and we wouldn't be hearing about any of this.

Obama-Gates: racial paranoia and profiling
By now this is old news but here’s some interesting commentary on the subject:
An LAPD police officer:
... let us examine the issue of racial profiling as it pertains — or doesn’t — to Mr. Gates’s arrest. As I wrote on Wednesday, the suggestion that Gates was "profiled" is ludicrous. Gates was not simply driving or walking along and into the awareness of some racist cop looking to exert authority over him.
... if Crowley’s account is accurate, it was Gates who profiled him, imputing racial animus as the reason for the sergeant’s presence on the front porch.
Victor Davis Hanson:
Somehow the president in the last few hours, in his now characteristic stereotyping, has managed to insult the nation's police with his "stupidly" comment, the nation's surgeons with his reference to greedy tonsil-cutting, and the nation's elderly with his aspirin quip — all reminiscent of the "typical white person" castoff, Pennsylvania clingers speech, and the Special Olympics one-liner. Given his propensity to apologize abroad for the purported sins of other earlier Americans, can we expect some "I'm sorry"s for his own clumsy generalizations?
Charles Krauthammer:
He should have said, "I am a friend of Gates, and therefore I'm inclined to believe his story. But since there's no way I can know what actually happened, I'll decline a comment."
... Instead, he developed the Gates' narrative of racism, and I think in a situation in which it was at least, as of now, entirely unwarranted.
Heather MacDonald :
Hope and change in Obama’s "post-racial America".... whereas Gates’s rantings about police bias might ultimately be dismissed as standard ivory-tower posturing, Obama has now put the presidential imprimatur on a set of untruths that will only fuel disrespect for the law and impede the police in their efforts to protect inner-city residents from crime.
Update: Mark Steyn:
... The photograph of the arrest shows a bullet-headed black cop – Sgt. Leon Lashley, I believe – standing in front of the porch while behind him a handcuffed Gates yells accusations of racism. This is the pitiful state the Bull Connors of the 21st century are reduced to, forced to take along a squad recruited from the nearest Benetton ad when they go out to whup some uppity Negro boy.
As professor Gates jeered at the officers, "You don't know who you're messin' with." Did Sgt. Crowley have to arrest him? Probably not. Did he allow himself to be provoked by an obnoxious buffoon? Maybe. I dunno. I wasn't there. Neither was the president of the United States, or the governor of Massachusetts or the mayor of Cambridge. All of whom have declared themselves firmly on the side of the Ivy League bigshot. And all of whom, as it happens, are African American. A black president, a black governor and a black mayor all agree with a black Harvard professor that he was racially profiled by a white-Latino-black police team, headed by a cop who teaches courses in how to avoid racial profiling. The boundless elasticity of such endemic racism suggests that the "post-racial America" will be living with blowhard grievance-mongers like professor Gates unto the end of time.

Obama SC nominee Sotomayor - Part III
Why should Canadians care? Lorne Gunter:
A liberal law professor:... two reasons: First, American judicial trends -- especially the liberal ones -- have a way of creeping into our own legal system. An activist U. S. high court would encourage our own judges to be even more activist than they already are.
... mostly I think we should be fascinated with her confirmation for the insight it is providing into liberal legalthink [in particular liberal double standards] ... If Sonia Sotomayor were a conservative white male, she likely would not be confirmed as a justice on the U. S. Supreme Court ...
I was completely disgusted by Judge Sotomayor's testimony today. If she was not perjuring herself, she is intellectually unqualified to be on the Supreme Court. If she was perjuring herself, she is morally unqualified.
Barack Obama’s email [Yes, I get email from POTUS]:
Update: Thomas Sowell.It's important for these hearings to be about Judge Sotomayor's own record and her capacity for the job — not any political back and forth that some in Washington may use to distract you.
[Translation: "Don’t listen to the critics." Actually, the nomination hearings involving "political back and forth" is the essence of the process, an intensely political one - hardly a mere "distraction".]

More "wise Latina" foolishness
... I accept the proposition that a difference will be made by the presence of women on the bench and that my experiences will affect the facts that I choose to see as a judge.She said under questioning yesterday that her words declaring the superiority of non-white female judges were merely "aspirational". That seems unlikely.

Obama nominates foolish Latina woman
From the self-parody file:A foolish, sexist, racist judge - just what’s needed in Obama’s post-racial America."I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life." -Judge Sonia Sotomayor, in her Judge Mario G. Olmos Law and Cultural Diversity Lecture at the University of California (Berkeley) School of Law in 2001
