"My brother, Jerry, is a genius."

That's how Andrew Mitrovica began his Ottawa Citizen column sneering at Danielle Smith's position on the global warming debate:
My brother, Jerry, is a genius. ... He’s a humble genius.
... My brother is a world-renowned geophysicist at Harvard University.
... he has examined the impact of climate change on sea levels.
... My brother is not a zealot. He is a careful, judicious scientist.
Danielle Smith on the other hand:
... The same cannot be said about Wildrose party leader Danielle Smith, a former newspaper columnist, and researcher for the notoriously partisan Fraser Institute.
... Smith assured Albertans that she “will continue to watch the debate in the scientific community.”
..Perhaps the “brilliant” Wildrose leader will now come to her senses about climate change instead of parroting and pandering to wilful ignorance.
So, for Mitrovica, there is no debate. His genius brother told him so. Apparently he hadn't heard of world-renowned James Lovelock's recent reversal:
“The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books – mine included – because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn’t happened,” Lovelock said.
Maybe Mitrovica only reads consensus media, like the Ottawa Citizen, which didn't say a peep about Lovelock.

Polygamy: Obama vs. Romney

Mark Steyn:
... the Democrat governor of Montana, remarked that Romney was unlikely to appeal to women because his father was "born on a polygamy commune." Eighty-six percent of women, noted Gov. Schweitzer with a keenly forensic demographic eye, are "not great fans of polygamy."

Just for the record, Romney's father was not a polygamist; Romney's grandfather was not a polygamist; his great-grandfather was a polygamist. ...

Meanwhile, back in the female-friendly party, Obama's father was a polygamist; his grandfather was a polygamist; and his great-grandfather was a polygamist who had one more wife (five in total) than Romney's great-grandfather. It seems President Obama is the first male in his line not to be a polygamist....

James Lovelock's climate climbdown

Four years ago:

With 'Strombo' three years ago:

This week: "I was 'alarmist' about climate change" [via]
“The problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago. That led to some alarmist books – mine included – because it looked clear-cut, but it hasn’t happened,” Lovelock said.
Lawrence Solomon: "Censored science":
"... why, when Lovelock this week recanted his past views on global warming as being “alarmist,” did virtually every major news outlet on the planet ignore his change of heart?..."

Ontario credit rating downgraded by Moody's

Epoch Times:
... Moody’s downgraded the province’s credit rating from Aa1 to Aa2 on Thursday, on Wednesday Standard & Poor’s downgraded its outlook for the province to negative.

With Moody’s downgrade, Ontario joins the lowest of three tiers that provinces sit at.

Alberta and British Columbia enjoy an Aaa rating, while Saskatchewan and Manitoba sit at Aa1. Ontario was downgraded to Aa2, the lowest rating shared by the rest of the provinces. ...
Take that McGuinty! And the dopes who elected you (along with, unfortunately, those who didn't).

Where have all the rednecks gone?

All I can say is that I'm profoundly disappointed in Alberta:

For the first time in a long time, perhaps ever, Albertans had a clear demarcation between left and right.  And how did they vote? Left, in spades, for a former UN bureaucrat as their Premier.

As John Robson put it: "I thought Alberta was different ... There is nothing here that isn't demoralizing."

Will the CBC ever again be able to use the "redneck" slur when describing Alberta and Albertans?  Sadly, no.

Lest we forget - what the NDP stands for

BC Blue:
In a bar called The Deck in the High Country Inn, the NDP gather every Friday to celebrate communist dictatorships and have even painted a symbolic Red Square on the floor of which they proudly posted a video on YouTube ..."
Good grief! Nostalgia for communism and the Soviet Union, in Canada?! These clowns are either brainless tools or willfully blind, maybe both. From R.J. Rummel’s "Death by Government":
61,911,000 Murdered: The Soviet Gulag State
35,236,000 Murdered: The Communist Chinese Ant Hill
1,670,000 Murdered: The Vietnamese War State
That Soviet National Anthem the moronic Dippers sing so enthusiastically is littered with such obvious propagandist lies as “Long live our People, united and free.”

To think that the NDP is our Official Opposition and that BC is about to put them back in power.

It’s obscene! Lest we forget what the NDP stands for.

And, can we expect the MSM to give this any notice at all, like, say, they have for relatively mild instances of political incorrectness committed by a couple of Wildrose Party members?

Earth Day - celebrating "42 years of crying wolf"

Peter Foster:
... Sunday’s Earth Day comes two months ahead of the vast, but significantly brief, UN Rio+20 conference. Both are pale reflections of their original radical aspirations. Earth Day is still celebrated, but 42 years of crying wolf have inevitably had an effect.
... That Earth Day has gone Happy Face, and Rio+20 will be a farce, reflects the fact that their apocalyptic assumptions have turned out to be so wrong.
...Only man can “care” about the environment. Secure property rights — and sound science — are the surest guides to that custody.

Matt Damon's respect for and appreciation of George W. Bush

Matt Damon just loves what George W. Bush did for AIDS relief
... He did PEPFAR (... the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) ...

And to show his respect and appreciation, Damon says:
"I would kiss George W. Bush on the mouth ... Three seconds. No tongue."
Har, har - I'm sure GWB feels the love.  A typical Hollywood leftist nitwit, Damon can't compliment a conservative without throwing in an insulting gesture.  I hate to think what he'd say he wanted to do if he were really, really ecstatic about something Bush did.  Sodomy comes to mind.

Damon goes on:
... I just had a sense of national pride going around, talking to these [African] people, and they were so happy, they would say, "America," and I was saying, "Yeah, our president did that, and it's terrific." It's such an obvious connected thing. People aren't going to hate you when you're saving their lives. [Sure, it's all about you, Matt.] ...

Logical fallacies in climate hysteria

Christopher Monckton:
But there’s a consensus!” shrieked the bossy environmentalist with the messy blonde hair.
“That, Madame, is intellectual baby-talk,” I replied.
I was about to give a talk questioning “global warming” hysteria at Union College, Schenectady. College climate extremists, led by my interlocutor, had set up a table at the door of the lecture theatre to deter students from hearing the skeptical side of the case.
Starting with the consensus or headcount fallacy Monckton goes on to illustrate another ten or so of the logical fallacies (codified by Aristotle 2300 years ago) that regularly crop up in AGW hysterics' arguments.

The above linked account of Monckton's talk at Union College also makes an interesting read.

Politically correct banking?

Bank of America refuses to do business with firearms manufacturer:

... the mega-bank told the firearms company [McMillan] that its business is no longer welcome.

... McMillan [said] that he plans to move his company’s account to “a more Second Amendment-friendly bank” as soon as it can be done. ...

Class warfare

Peter Foster:
... Economically challenged populism is on the march and President Barack Obama is demonizing the rich, with the help of the super rich, notably his buddy Warren Buffett. This all comes within the context of renewed hand wringing  about “inequality,” which raised its envious head this week north of the border, where a poll claimed that most Canadians favoured soaking the wealthy.
... This week, a poll carried out for the Broadbent Institute, a new left-wing Canadian emotion tank, declared that 71% of Canadians fret about inequality, while more than three-quarters want heavier taxation of the rich. According to an introduction on the website of the new institute, named for the former federal NDP leader and perennial class warrior, Mr. Broadbent avers that “For some time now, Canadians have been told that citizenship means no more than individuals pursuing their own self-interest.” He quotes no source for this nonsensical assertion, but then lefties get most of their moralistic highs from tilting at windmills.

Celebrate diversity - everybody wear pink

Mark Steyn:
... Canada’s GSA is the Gay-Straight Alliance. The GSA is all over the GTA (the Gayer Toronto Area), but in a few remote upcountry redoubts north of Timmins intolerant knuckle-dragging fundamentalist school boards declined to get with the beat. So the Ontario Government has determined to afflict them with the “Accepting Schools Act.”
... when you can’t deal with a problem, the easiest option is to institutionalize it. Thus, today is the Day of Pink, “the international day against bullying, discrimination, homophobia and transphobia.” ...

... Nothing says “celebrate diversity” like forcing everyone to dress exactly the same, like a bunch of Maoists who threw their workers’ garb in the washer but forgot to take the red flag out.

... Like the country song says, “I Was Pink Shirt When Pink Shirt Wasn’t Cool — Er, Mandatory.” ... when the state is committed to coercing a ruthless conformity, that’s the time to show that a flickering flame of the contrarian, iconoclastic spirit still flickers in the Canadian schoolhouse. You may get bullied for not wearing pink on the Day of Pink, but you’ll feel better for it.

Al Gore and Keith Olbermann - liberalism as a mental disorder

Via WUWT come hilarious email exchanges between Al Gore and Keith Olbermann on the way to Olbermann being fired from Gore's 'Current TV'.  They both come off as narcissistic megalomaniacs (certifiably NUTS!).

If the emails are genuine, that Al Gore came within a whisker of becoming POTUS is beyond scary.

Update:   OK, that exchange was straight satire.  I missed the "DC Satire" label at the bottom of the Daily Caller post.  Oops!

James "Wacky" Hansen goes further off the rails

Anthony Watts catches up with climate hysteric James Hansen:
Prof Jim Hansen: 'We’re handing future generations a climate system which is potentially out of their control'
Like it was, or ever will be, in our control.

Obama calls Supreme Court "activist", "unelected"

Speaking about the 'Obamacare' challenge now before the Supreme Court, Obama referred to the Court as an "activist" and "unelected group" and that overturning his healthcare bill would be "unprecedented". Say, isn't that political interference with the judiciary?

Dohrn and Ayers - same old hippy-dippy, commie radicals

Obama pals Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn address NYC "Occupiers"

Ayers:
"... Imagine a world without war ... imagine a world without capitalism" [Ayers must be mellowing. Didn't he once like bombing his 'enemies'?]
Dohrn:
“... Take Jeremiah Wright, Rev. Jeremiah Wright in the last election, right? An incredible guy. ... He has had this absolutely exemplary life in the church ... He’s a deep and fabulous guy, so invite him to speak.”
