Climate alarmists hostile to facts that contradict alarmist exaggerations and lies

And, of course, hostile to the messenger of those facts:
The Seattle Times ran a hysterical story at the Washington Park Arboretum in Seattle. Cliff Mass, professor of Atmospheric Science at the University of Washington and no climate change skeptic, demolished the Times story in a strongly-worded blog post.
But perhaps more importantly, he goes on to describe the kind of pressure to which he is subjected to not post such corrections because of the ammunition it gives to “deniers”. It is an excellent exposition on the corruption of the scientific method that is rampant in climate science — not just the suppression of dissent, but the suppression of every small correction of the most exaggerated claims.

Janice Fiamengo, anti-feminist, is being hauled before Ontario's "Social Justice" Tribunal

"We are witnessing a powerfully malevolent force in ascendance" [academic feminism]:

And, in a demonstration of an equally powerful malevolent force working in lock-step with academic feminism:
Janice Fiamengo is being hauled before the Ontario "Social Justice" Tribunal:
A former student has accused Janice of a human rights violation which will go to trial before the Social Justice Tribunal of Ontario. The University of Ottawa is a co-defendant in this case and is of course represented by their own lawyer. Recent cases have demonstrated quite clearly that universities are quick to throw their employees under the bus in order to appease the Social Justice mobs so the university of Ottawa cannot be trusted to protect Fiamengo. The university of Ottawa lawyer is payed to protect the University of Ottawa NOT Janice Fiamengo. Any deal offered or struck will consider only the interests of the university, the social justice tribunal, and the student. Janice Fiamengo will be considered expendable throughout this process
The proper name for this "Social Justice" Tribunal process is "tyranny".

Her "trial" begins in six to eight months.  Her legal fees have already been successfully crowd-funded.

Climate fascism on the move

New York’s attorney general is investigating whether Exxon Mobil lied about climate change risks:
The New York attorney general has begun a sweeping investigation of Exxon Mobil to determine whether the company lied to the public about the risks of climate change or to investors about how those risks might hurt the oil business.
According to people with knowledge of the investigation, Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman issued a subpoena Wednesday evening to Exxon Mobil, demanding extensive financial records, emails and other documents.
Does anyone know with any certainty at all what "climate change risks" really are?  This is looks like a witch hunt.  It would be a lot more fruitful for the AG zealots to investigate whether the UN IPCC "lied" about climate change risks.  They've been exaggerating warming and climate risks for decades.

Climate alarmist outrage of the week

Scientists demand Obama use the RICO Act to silence climate skeptics:
... Twenty alarmist climate scientists – including UN IPCC lead author Kevin ‘Travesty’ Trenberth – have written a letter to President Obama urging him to use RICO laws to crush dissent by climate skeptics. Their hypocrisy and dishonesty, especially that of the main signatory, almost defies belief.....

Climate McCarthyism

... the hunt for the hides of a few climate skeptics began last weekend when The New York Times climate beat reporter, Justin Gillis, co-wrote an attack on Wei-Hock (Willie) Soon, a sceptical scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.  ...
... In the end it is the warmists who will come out of this looking like the pathetic political witch hunters they are ...
When “witch hunts” are deemed legitimate in the context of popular causes, we will have fully turned science into just another arena for the exercise of power politics. The result is a big loss for both science and politics.

Peter Foster: Crushing climate thoughtcrime
The U.S. Democratic witch hunt against scientists skeptical about official climate science threatens to blow up in the faces of the Inquisitors. It lays bare the totalitarian mentality behind the radical climate agenda.

Climate fascism

From the Vancouver Observer**:

... a curious ad denying fossil fuel-driven climate change appeared on the Tinseltown marquee downtown Vancouver on a Pattison Outdoor sign.

... Friends of Science, a Calgary-based nonprofit group that disputes climate change, bought the ad.

Richard Littlemore, co-author of 'Climate Cover-up: The Crusade to Deny Global Warming' and former journalist:
"There ought to be an instrument that punishes companies that profit from the imminent destruction of humankind. You would hope for some level of corporate responsibility that would have spared us from this", he said.
Littlemore said he can't understand why skeptics still want to keep the debate open on climate change.

... Jimmy Pattison (owner of the Jim Pattison Group) should be ashamed of himself...he should be accountable for what’s up on his sign."

You'd hope Littlemore, as a "former journalist", would have a higher regard for free speech and that he'd think what is really hard to understand is why anyone would want "to keep the debate" closed.  But, being a typical lefty demagogue, his fascist tendencies override any possibility of clear thought.

Orwellian thought control at Oregon State University

Climate skeptic instructor fired from Oregon State University:

In theory at least Oregon State University (OSU) seems to be a bastion of academic freedom, diversity, and tolerance. ... But it is all a fairy tale, because OSU operates under a politically correct regimen that dictates what is acceptable to say and what is not. Transgressors who dare to be different are eventually weeded out so that the campus maintains its ideological purity.

... We learned over the weekend that chemist Nickolas Drapela, PhD has been summarily fired from his position as a “Senior Instructor” in the Department of Chemistry. The department chairman Richard Carter told him that he was fired but would not provide any reason. Subsequent attempts to extract a reason from the OSU administration have been stonewalled.

... Five years ago, Oregon State Climatologist George Taylor went around quietly saying that he was not a believer. Then Governor Ted Kulongoski and many faculty at OSU including Dr. Jane Lubchenco made life impossible for Taylor, and he retired. (Lubchenco is now head of NOAA in the Obama administration.) Under those currently in charge, OSU climate research has grown to be a huge business, reportedly $90 million per year with no real deliverables beyond solid academic support for climate hysteria.

"Hate 2.0: Combating the Radical Right ... "

If we needed another example proving that university humanities faculties are, at best, a waste of time and money here’s one proudly presented in the Summer 2012 Carleton University Magazine:
With a major grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, [Jennifer] Evans and her Carleton colleagues Christiane Wilke, a legal scholar; historian Shawn Graham; and communications professor Josh Greenberg have embarked on a two-year project called "Hate 2.0: Combating the Radical Right in the Age of Social Technology."
Evans and her collaborators will examine the ways social media are being used to combat neo-Nazism and other radical-right strains of thought in Germany and Canada.
The Carleton Department of History announcement of Evans’ grant last summer featured this National Organization of Women (NOW) logo along with these details:

From the perspectives of social and gender history, critical legal studies, and media studies, the research team will examine how local, state, and federal authorities, together with institutionalized anti-hate initiatives [e.g. the HRCs], social justice organizations, and avant guard movements, employ digital media to promote awareness, combat denial, and contest the rise of xenophobic sentiment.

In other words our federal government is ponying up real cash for far-left academic ideologues to investigate ways of combatting a handful of lonely neo-Nazis operating from their moms’ basements. Couldn’t they have at least targeted a real and present danger? Was Richard Warman on the committee that awarded that grant? So many questions.

Oh the humanities! What a colossal waste! Shut down the whole lot and save billions!

Update:  Some of the comments regarding the proper place of Nazism and Fascism on the political spectrum reminded me of this post on the subject a few years ago.

Happy May Day! A day to celebrate Marxist mass murder

R.J. Rummel:
Marxism, the religion of communism ... is alive and well in many countries still, such as North Korea, China, Cuba, Vietnam, Laos, a gaggle of African countries, and in the minds of many South American political leaders. However, of most importance to the future of democracy, communism still pollutes the thinking of a vast multitude of Western academics and intellectuals [and other assorted idiots].
... Of all religions, secular and otherwise, that of Marxism has been by far the bloodiest ... In practice, Marxism has meant bloody terrorism, deadly purges, lethal prison camps and murderous forced labor, fatal deportations, man-made famines, extrajudicial executions and fraudulent show trials, outright mass murder and genocide.

In total, Marxist regimes murdered nearly 110 million people from 1917 to 1987.
[By comparison Marxism/communism's close cousins,Naziism and fascism, are pikers.]
Happy May Day!

"Earth Hour" eco-fascism on the wane

Peter Foster:
... Enthusiasm for the dim-bulb stunt appears to have waned in line with climate hysteria, although the WWF is doing its best to keep activism alive in the classroom, the cubicle and the corporate suite. ...
... The WWF has lots of great ideas ... kids: have a contest to see who can “raise the most funds for WWF.” ...
... climate is so, like, 2008. Although you would never know it from reading the mainstream media ...
... Meanwhile, the climate policy process is collapsing.
How often did President Barack Obama mention climate change during his recent “all-of-the-above” U.S. energy tour?” Not once. ...
... Britain is abandoning its plans to force corporations to report their greenhouse gas emissions ... (although the lights will still go out on Saturday Night at Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament).
... Poland has blocked new European Union emissions targets.
... Other East European members of the EU are increasingly inclined to block targets permanently.
... “climate policy is no longer a big item on the EU’s agenda and the climate mania is gradually coming to an end after almost 20 years.”
And with it, fortunately, ecofascist nonsense such as Earth Hour.
Good riddance to "Earth Hour".

Celebrate "Human Achievement".

Individualism vs collectivism

Xanthippa has posted a five part series of videos that neatly explain key concepts (and misconceptions) relating the various political philosophies - individualism vs collectivism, right vs left, rights, liberty, anarchy, socialsim, communism, fascism, Naziism, etc.  The series is topped off with a presentation by John Robson on the Magna Carta.  Excellent.

Dedicated libertarians know this stuff inside out and do a great job of explaining it.  But what they haven't been able to do very successfully is to get a sufficiently large following to attain political power based on libertarian principles.  The Libertarian Party has been unable to do even what the Green Party has done. Not even close. Canucks are too well indoctrinated, from birth to death, in collectivism.  As the videos warn: "The evidence presented here was not part of your education".  All that "greedy", "selfish", "uncaring", libertarian individualism is just too scary.  Though it could be argued that the libertarian philosophy does enjoy some measure of representation within the Conservative Party.  Maybe that's the most they can reasonably expect for now.

Team Obama's (il)liberal fascism

Top Obama czar: Infiltrate all 'conspiracy theorists':

In a lengthy academic paper, President Obama's regulatory czar, Cass Sunstein, argued the U.S. government should ban "conspiracy theorizing."

Among the beliefs Sunstein would ban is advocating that the theory of global warming is a deliberate fraud.

Sunstein also recommended the government send agents to infiltrate "extremists who supply conspiracy theories" to disrupt the efforts of the "extremists" to propagate their theories.

...

Jonah Goldberg's "Liberal Fascism" showed how it all works. Team Obama is providing more proof of the pudding.

Communism, fascism and now climatism

Terence Corcoran in yesterday’s Post:

... a corporate-driven global PR machine, ... an avalanche of business-government co-operation the likes of which the world has never seen. ... the world’s leading environmentalists and green NGOs: The World Wildlife Fund, David Suzuki, the Sierra Club, Environmental Defence, Forest Ethics, the Pembina Institute and many more. Together with industry, they pressure government in the creation of the green industrial state. ...

The shape of the green industrial state rises out of a not-so-attractive place in history. The two great theories of modern statism are part of the recent past: Communism has been dead for two decades, discredited with the fall of the Soviet Union; and full-blown fascism, with government in total control of a subservient corporate private economy, has been a non-starter since 1945. What we have now rising out of the ashes to fill the void is climatism.

Some of the culprits:

... the Forest Products Association of Canada, whose president, Avrim Lazar, threw Canada’s forest firms behind a World Wildlife Fund campaign to stop global deforestation.

... the Canadian ENGO-Industry Cap-and-Trade Dialogue ... a rogues gallery middlemen, energy consumers and green activists: The David Suzuki Foundation, Dow Canada, DuPont Canada, Environmental Defence, Forest Ethics, Pembina Institute, Royal Bank of Canada, Rio Tinto, Sierra Club of Canada, the Toronto-Dominion Bank and the World Wildlife Fund. ...

... In Ontario, the list of corporations supporting and circling the province’s new Green Energy Act is an appalling demonstration of climatism run amok. From TransCanada to GE, from wind farm developers to solar panel makers, it’s a corporatist free for all. All have joined forces with David Suzuki, Environmental Defence and other green groups in cahoots with government ...

... The model for Ontario’s green renewable schemes is Germany, where climatism is well advanced and where solar and wind power programs ... has created an economic fiasco.

... Last week ... a Canadian green business summit boasted Walmart, Maple Leaf Foods, Coca-Cola Bottling, McDonald’s, Home Depot as leaders, with a keynote speech by David Suzuki ...

Any guesses as to what Canada’s position at the Copenhagen climate treaty will be?

Brit blacklist a compliment to America

British Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, released a list of 22 people who are banned from the U.K. The blacklist is intended to "name and shame" those accused "... of fomenting hatred, glorifying terrorism or being capable of inciting ethnic violence in the country."

The list includes a half-dozen Muslim radicals, a neo-Nazi German, a Jewish extremist, a couple of murderous Russian skin-heads and four Americans (conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage, former KKK leader Stephen Black and anti-gay hate-mongers Fred and daughter Shirley Phelps).

That so many Americans are on the blacklist should be taken as a compliment by America. Compared to the U.S.A. Britain is a relative economic and social basket case drifting towards fascistic politically correct authoritarianism (a Canadian "human rights" regime on steroids). A much freer, wealthier and more tolerant America suffers far less social turbulence.

No doubt there is good reason to ban those who advocate or have committed violence. If so, as Michael Savage asks, why isn't Kim Jong Il's name on the list; why not Hugo Chavez's or Fidel Castro's or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's or ....?)

Michael Savage is pissed and promises to sue Jacqui Smith for defamation.

GM = Government Motors

Jonah Goldberg:
As one reader asks, "Does this mean the failure to obtain a lube/oil/filter every 5,000 miles should be criminalized?"
And:
From a reader: "... the oil change would take a week and the government cost would be around $1000.00"

Ontario’s green fascism

This is where global warming hysteria is leading. Jonah Goldberg recently clarified the meaning of liberal fascism. Now we have a good example of the new green fascism in Ontario Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty’s and his energy Czar, George Smitherman’s proposed new Green Energy Act. The Financial Post’s series (see also) spells out all the scary elements, including:

- a massive government power grab: "Already famous as a green nanny state, where every course at every school is to be larded with environmental propaganda, Ontario is now set to become a kind of green fascist state. The new energy act sets up carbon reduction and renewable energy — wind, solar, biomass — as quasi-religious goals that will be achieved via a massive power grab."

- undermining the economy and the environment: "Ontario’s Green Energy Act should more accurately be called Ontario’s Gangreen Act. ... No piece of legislation in memory will do more to simultaneously undermine Ontario’s economy and environment. This one act rolls back decades of environmental gains in the energy sphere and opens the door to a future of environmental outrages."

- government collusion with corporate rent seekers and green activists: "In summary, the Ontario government pays millions of dollars to environmental activists and corporate interests to lobby the Ontario government and agitate for the Green Energy Act, which act serves the interests of the agitators.... So a final question on Ontario’s new Green Energy Act: What’s the definition of corruption?"

- police state enforcement of green laws: "Is that a beer fridge in your basement?"

Mussolini could have taken lessons from the McGuinty Liberals.

As a former citizen of the once wealthy and sane Ontario I find this sad. As a Canadian I find it alarming. McGuinty and co.’s ‘Green Energy’ travesty will almost certainly drag Ontario, former economic engine of the country, deeper into its economic quagmire - and sets a dangerous example for other provinces.

British Columbia, having been the first to implement a carbon tax, join the Western Climate Initiative and shamelessly star-f**k green RINO Arnold Schwarzenegger, has already proven it has a taste for climate change Kool-Aid. So adopting McGuinty-like green fascist energy policy here isn’t far-fetched.

Enough is enough. “I’m outta here!”

Victoria has become a city (like many I’m sure) run by scolds and control freaks. Regional "Authorities" (they do seem to love ‘authority’ around here) police everything from the cleanliness of recycled cans to water restrictions (needed or not) and draconian anti-smoking bylaws.

Recently, a privately owned and operated sports and entertainment centre, encouraged by the health Nazis' attitude, decided to take things a step further and conduct searches and seizures of patrons’ tobacco products ...

Which prompted this excellent letter:

Re: Save-On centre butting out, News, Sept. 17, 2008.

Has the Capital Regional District and Save-On-Foods centre gone completely insane?

You will not be confiscating any of my tobacco products or infringing on my rights, as I never plan to return to the land of the over-regulated and bylaw-saturated non-personally responsible hell that is being created in Victoria region and Canada as a whole by silly self-serving bureaucrats trying to justify their existence by telling me how to live.

Anarchy works for me. That is why I moved to Mexico. I write you as I enjoy a beer and a smoke in a public shopping mall, just ahead of commute back home in my vehicle, while not wearing a seat belt, watching smiling families riding in the back of pick-up trucks whiz by me at 110 kilometres per hour.

Guess what will happen if I crash? They will say it was my own fault. No one to blame but myself. How liberating. Adios!

Sean Randall
Formerly of Langford

Great letter, Sean! I know exactly where you’re coming from.
