The low moral and intellectual state of the left

Dennis Prager recently wrote a column in the Jewish Journal expressing his concerns:
"... about the Torah and the current unprecedented attempt to blur male-female distinction in biology and society."
It ignited a firestorm of hatemail from the Jewish left.

To which Prager responded "The hate is all in one direction":
... Virtually every one of them is shameful. If you care about the moral nature and intellectual viability of American Jewish life, they are actually frightening.

... I am accused of cruelty, intolerance, bigotry, hate, publicly humiliating someone, ignorance and more.  Yet, there is not a hint of any one of these things in my column.

... Other letters and comments accuse me of intolerance, bigotry, ignorance, transphobia, maligning, defamation, slander, xenophobia, foolishness, mean-spiritedness, inflicting “spiritual violence,” lacking compassion, anti-knowledge and more — all without providing a single example.

... It is these letters and comments that are filled with hate; it is these writers who intend to humiliate; it is these people who are intolerant of any view but their own.
And, yesterday he followed up with: "The moral and intellectual state of the Jewish left."
First, the low intellectual state. ... Bret Stephens ... succinctly put it recently in his Wall Street Journal column, “American academia is, by and large, idiotic.”

... characteristic No. 2: Instead of intellectual discourse, what we have is the dismissal of the decency of the left’s opponents. If you oppose the left, you are rarely debated. Instead you are dismissed as sexist, intolerant, xenophobic, homophobic, transphobic, Islamophobic, racist, bigoted and spewing hatred.

Third, and finally, there is a willingness to make up falsehoods in the service of progressive ideals.

Of course this isn't a problem just with the American Jewish left on the issue of male-female blurring, but with the left throughout the entire West over a wide range of issues.

Harper Derangement Syndrome on dislay at CPC rally in Surrey, BC

As the election draws closer, Harper Derangement Syndrome seems to be intensifying.  On the way into the CPC campaign rally in Surrey last night, a guy walked back and forth on the sidewalk across the street shouting vile insults at rally-goers lining up outside the venue.  It was funny, weird and at the same time disturbing because he seemed genuinely nuts.

And inside the venue, during Stephen Harper's speech, three more "protesters" managed to infiltrate the rally.  One unfurled a banner calling for "climate justice" (don't we all know Harper is a climate criminal?), another rushed towards Harper (aiming to do what wasn't clear) getting within a foot of him before being tackled by security guards, and shortly after a third started shouting at Harper from the audience before being grabbed and hustled out.

All in all, it was described by reporters as "the worst security breach of the campaign". The security people really started looking worried after the fracas (for their jobs, maybe?)

Australia is reminded that with friends like Obama, who needs enemies?

In that speech of Obama's at the University of Queensland, Aussie Greg Sheridan, writing in the Wall Street Journal, notes a mystifying attack on Australia:
President Obama over the weekend made a bizarre decision to attack and damage his closest ally in Asia, and one of the most committed supporters of U.S. foreign policy.

.... the longest passage was an extraordinary riff on climate change that contained astonishing criticism—implied, but unmistakable—of the government led by Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

... As some congressional Democrats recently learned, the only thing fraught with more danger than being Mr. Obama’s enemy is being his friend.
Obama, ever the traitor to the West, puts his radical leftist ideology and what he thinks is good for his legacy ahead of everything.  As Israel learned long ago, he's intensely divisive not only at home, but abroad as well.  The man's a menace.  For the good of the entire civilized world, 2016 can't come too soon.

Conrad Black's defence of Mayor Rob Ford

The salvation of Ford: Conrad Black on why Rob Ford can win again
... nothing has come to light that disqualifies him from fulfilling the mandate his electors gave him, and I do not believe that the City Council has any legal capacity to redefine the powers of the mayor ...

... Mayor Ford’s detractors should realize that instead of hounding him from office, they have probably, by their bestial self-righteous excess and implicit mockery of a large echelon of the population that identifies with the mayor, made him more popular than ever. They have mocked human foibles a great many voters share, without shame, if not proudly. ... The law of unintended consequences asserts itself again, and it will be interesting to see whom it strikes.
Conrad at his best. Love it!  Though I'd say that in addition to that "implicit mockery" there was a lot of explicit mockery and insult of Ford voters by many including Post columnists J Kay and A. Coyne.

Leftist, anti-Zimmerman hate mobs strike fear into family

Family rescued by George Zimmerman after a rollover crash in Florida ...
... are terrified they will become targets for hate mobs who have made death threats to the neighborhood vigilante.

Mark and Dana Michelle Gerstle told friends they do not want to talk publicly about Zimmerman for fear they will be accused of portraying him as a hero - and face a backlash from those who consider he got away with murder.

'They are very grateful to Zimmerman for what he did, but they do not want to get involved,' said a friend, who asked not to be named.
... The heroic rescue took place less than a mile from where Zimmerman shot 17 year old Martin in February 2012. ...
This insanity is thanks:
1) to vile leftists who favor mob "justice"
2) to a vile leftist media and race-baiters for misrepresenting the Zimmerman case, and
3) Barack Obama for stirring up racial resentment to satisfy his certifiably nuts, far-left base.
Assuming this story is accurate, good for Zimmerman - obviously he's a stand-up guy.

As for Mark and Dana Gerstle, I have mixed feelings.  Given the leftist mob-justice mentality on display they're justifiably fearful for their family's safety.  On the other hand, it would be better if they showed some courage.  Maybe they'll step up soon.

Live From Ryerson University - Violent, Racist, Anti-Semitic, Hate

Greg Renouf at genuiNEWitty:
... At about 2:45 Saturday afternoon the Livestream camera was handed to a young native man named Billy who says he comes from near the Conawapa Dam in Manitoba.

...  Billy explains his view on what indigenous people need to do to get attention for their cause:
“Us Indians have to do something really extreme to get the world’s attention, like forming a Taliban“

... He then moves on to discuss his feelings on Jewish people and Israel ...
Neo at halls of macadamia:
Seriously... where's a Human Rights Commissioner when you really, really need one? ...
... Actually, [Billy]... I'm kinda hopin' you have a serious substance abuse problem... 'cos, otherwise, you're just full-on batshit crazy.

Kay on debating abortion

Once in a while I actually like what Jonathan Kay writes.  Today's National Post editorial "It's no crime to debate abortion" is excellent:
Abortion ... Among great swathes of the political left, and even the centre, the very concept of possible legal reform is seen as tantamount to vicious misogyny.

Consider the reaction to this week’s free vote on Conservative MP Stephen Woodworth’s private members’ motion to create a parliamentary committee that would study the question of when life begins. ... Many suggest that the mere fact of the motion ..., and the yea vote by some Conservatives, constitutes a gesture of hatred. Or, in the case of female MPs, self-hatred.
Following several examples of rabid rhetoric from pro-choicedeath columnists and activists Kay concludes with:
It is to the great credit of Stephen Harper that he allowed members of his caucus to vote their conscience on Stephen Woodworth’s private members’ motion — even though he knew that it would be controversial. His gesture proves that some Canadians — even those such as our Prime Minister, who nominally supports the current laissez-faire status quo — understand that humane and reasonable people — including, gasp, women — hold different views on the subject. If only this spirit of tolerance and sanity might blow through the ranks of hard-left culture warriors, we might one day have the intelligent abortion debate that already has occurred in every nation on earth save ours.

The caring, compassionate, empathetic left

Mark Steyn on Alan Colmes mocking Rick Santorum on the death of his baby:

... In 2008, the Left gleefully mocked Sarah Palin's live baby. It was only a matter of time before they moved on to a dead one. ...

Santorum accepts Colmes' apology:
