BC trade school reverses bigoted anti-Israeli policy

The Island School of Building Arts (ISBA) is a trade school established on Gabriola Island, BC as a "Training Provider for the Log and Timber Frame Construction Industry".

Who knew that BDS bigotry would have, like termites, infested a woodworking trade school in the backwoods of BC?  I certainly wouldn't have but for the Jerusalem Post and the Canadian Centre for Israeli and Jewish Affairs (CIJA).

From this morning's JPost:
A Canadian trade school reportedly turned down an Israeli student applicant simply for being Israeli.
[The school, foolishly assuming the moral high ground,] wrote ... that "It is sad that decisions being made halfway around the world impact us here as we have had a number of students from Israel attend the school in the past." The email continued: "This is a question of staying in line with our moral compass, which will always be important to us. We are still inclusive and cannot support that which is not inclusive.
Following the CIJA's intervention later today they were able to report :
"We are pleased to announce that the ISBA has reversed its decision."
That was fast work! Good show, CIJA.

FWIW, the incident garnered a fair bit of attention on Twitter.

The death of Sun News makes this Arab-Canadian happy

Omar Mouallem is an Edmonton-based writer, Metro News columnist and editor of The Yards:
... Thankfully ... as of this morning, the most trusted name in bigotry is gone. Sun News Network has shut down.

... It was a network that promoted racism—against Arabs, against Romani people, against First Nations ...
[Nonsense.  Ezra expressed his sincere regrets for his comments about the Romani, but Sun's coverage of First Nations focused on issues of systemic dysfunction and corruption among the Indian leadership, the systemically racist regime perpetuated by the Indian Act as well as highlighting competent, successful reserves like Osoyoos. And, Sun's coverage of "Arabs" wasn't about Arabs it was about radical Islam, its reign of misogyny, homophobia and terror; and it was about execrable Western lib/left apologists covering for it.]

... young reporters launched their careers by contributing to a hate-machine that perpetuated prejudice, especially against Muslims ...
["hate-machine"? Not so much. Sun was a TRUTH machine. But then the truth doesn't cut much ice, even with our often ridiculously PoMo Supreme Court: “the use of truthful statements should not provide a shield in the human rights context” .]

... If the now unemployed Sun News Network staff, or the congenial media professionals offering their condolences to those who lost their jobs, were brown or Muslim they'd understand just how harmful it is to casually sensationalize stories about Islam ...
[The phony race card, again. And Sun News wasn't "casual" about its coverage of radical Islam, it was deliberate, forceful and truthful.]

... because this is the overwhelmingly white Canadian media ...
[Now, speaking of bigotry, that's just ...phobic.]
It would seem that the real bigot here is Mr. Mouallem.  But never mind, that whiter-than-white, Jewish, lib/leftist, Jonathan Kay, liked the cut of his jib:
Which brought this obvious suggestion in reply:
Because the latter is a long-perpetuated lie and the former is a suppressed truth?
A gripping tale of a hyper-sensitive "brown" guy and his "white" liberal apologist - both of whom have a disdain for the truth.

New Brunswick Law Society bigots vote 137/30 to ban Trinity graduates

Today at a Special General Meeting of the Law Society of New Brunswick:
"...members of the Law Society of New Brunswick passed a resolution by a vote of 137 to 30 directing Council not to approve Trinity Western University’s Law school as a faculty of law."
 [via]

Update (brought forward from the comments):

When the BC College of Teachers tried to pull a similar stunt the Supreme Court of Canada ruled (8/1) in favour of Trinity. See para 35 of the ruling where it is stated:
"... there is nothing in the TWU Community Standards that indicates that graduates of TWU will not treat homosexuals fairly and respectfully. Indeed, the evidence to date is that graduates from the joint TWU-SFU teacher education program have become competent public school teachers, and there is no evidence before this Court of discriminatory conduct by any graduate. ..."

So, extrapolating that ruling to the NB case (there's no basic difference), the NB Law Society's anti-Christian bigotry is illegal, a violation of Charter Rights and Freedoms. For more discussion read this article.

Al Sharpton - race demagogue and hate monger

Michelle Malkin with Sean Hannity: "Al Sharpton has blood on his hands... He’s ruined lives. He’s been one of the worst purveyors of racial divisiveness and hate in my lifetime. ..."

Feds funding Palestinian hate organization

Last month Blazing Catfur posted about his efforts to chase down the skinny on Palestine House's anti-Israeli hate-mongering. Palestine House Education (PHE), Mississauga, Ont is the recipient of federal funding and BCF requested that people write to our government asking them to wise up. Here's mine today (better late than never?):

To:
Jason Kenney, Minister of CIC, minister@cic.gc.ca
James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Moore.J@parl.gc.ca

Subject: Federal funding of Palestine House

Dear Ministers:

According to NGO Monitor the Canadian government has spent or committed to spending approximately $4 million (2008 through 2010) in support of the activities of Palestine House Educational (PHE) of Mississauga, Ont.

According to information obtained from the RCMP through FOI (see also Part 2 and Part 3), PHE has been engaged in promoting anti-Israeli, anti-Semitic hatred.

Though Canadian taxpayer funding is, ostensibly, for immigrant "settlement and education" it is clear that PHE is engaged in activities that run counter to Canadian values and the public good. It is inappropriate for the Canadian government to fund such an organization in any way, for any purpose. If you insist on funding "settlement and training" for Palestinian immigrants, find another way to do it.

You are urged to cut off all funding for PHE and for any other organization engaged in similarly objectionable activities.

Sincerely,

Cc:
CIC Communications Director, Alykhan Velshi alykhan,
Velshi@cic.gc.ca
MP Bob Dechert (Conservative, Mississauga-Erindale), Dechert.b@parl.gc.ca ô
Prime Minister Stephen Harper pm@pm.gc.ca

Margaret Atwood's "fictional drivel"

Barbara Kay nails it! She concludes:

The Handmaid's Tale is a nasty, anti-American trifecta of bigotry: a cheap thrust at men, conservatives and religious Christians.

... merely a tale told by a feminist, and like so many other such heavy-handed ideological screeds, it is full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Exactly! The Handmaid's Tale was set in the country least likely to implement her dystopian "vision". And worse, po-mo feminists like Atwood have been shamefully silent when women in certain Muslim societies like Saudia Arabia and Afghanistan under the Taliban are actually treated as breeder chattel.
