BC trade school reverses bigoted anti-Israeli policy
The Island School of Building Arts (ISBA) is a trade school established on Gabriola Island, BC as a "Training Provider for the Log and Timber Frame Construction Industry".
Who knew that BDS bigotry would have, like termites, infested a woodworking trade school in the backwoods of BC? I certainly wouldn't have but for the Jerusalem Post and the Canadian Centre for Israeli and Jewish Affairs (CIJA).
From this morning's JPost:
A Canadian trade school reportedly turned down an Israeli student applicant simply for being Israeli.
[The school, foolishly assuming the moral high ground,] wrote ... that "It is sad that decisions being made halfway around the world impact us here as we have had a number of students from Israel attend the school in the past." The email continued: "This is a question of staying in line with our moral compass, which will always be important to us. We are still inclusive and cannot support that which is not inclusive."Following the CIJA's intervention later today they were able to report :
"We are pleased to announce that the ISBA has reversed its decision."That was fast work! Good show, CIJA.
FWIW, the incident garnered a fair bit of attention on Twitter.

Private school gender politics, Part II - Names are named
Christie Blatchford: Posh Vancouver school places staff under gag order after teacher fired
Fraser Academy, the expensive Vancouver private school where last month a teacher was fired after making allegedly “triggering” remarks to a Grade 12 law class, has put its staff under a gag order.
Maureen Steltman, the school head, told Postmedia in a brief emailed statement the school “does not comment on personnel issues, even when we take issue with public inaccuracies.” ...Christie documents a history of similar abuses by this tyrannical school head-mistress, closing with:
... As for the teacher who was dismissed last month, he received a notice this week from the Teacher Regulation Branch, telling him the Fraser Academy has “provided a report about your conduct.” He is so crushed and distraught, he said, he may voluntarily surrender his teaching certificate.Nice! I hope that teacher can summon the nerve (and cash) to take Fraser Academy to court for wrongful dismissal and publicly expose their insanity. If he identified himself perhaps he could get some crowd funding from, say, The Rebel. I'd be willing to chip in. Or, (I hate to even suggest such a thing) failing that take the bastards to the BC Human Rights Tribunal (no cost for complainants) - on second thought, those 'social justice' morons would likely side with the school.

Jordan Peterson unloads - his philosophy and his advice on how to defeat the "social justice" ideologues
In this powerful one hour interview, Jordan Peterson lets us know what makes him tick - his philosophy of life, why he is risking his job to take up the fight against and defeat the scourges of political correctness and "social justice" ideology infecting Western society, and what we can do to help:
A teaser:
Prof Peterson identifies The PC Algorithm aka The Game of Political Correctness used by social justice warriors:
1. Identify some domain of human endeavour
2. Note that some people are doing comparatively well and others poorly
3. Define the people doing well as perpetrators
4. Define those doing poorly as victims
5. Announce your support for the victims
6. Trumpet your moral superiority
7. Vent your resentment and hatred on the conveniently identified perpetrators
8. Repeat, forever.
"This requires no thought. You can teach a university student this in about two hours and indoctrinate them into doing it professionally. Our recent research indicates that one politically correct course is enough to significantly affect someone's political beliefs."

Janice Fiamengo, anti-feminist, is being hauled before Ontario's "Social Justice" Tribunal
"We are witnessing a powerfully malevolent force in ascendance" [academic feminism]:
And, in a demonstration of an equally powerful malevolent force working in lock-step with academic feminism:
Her "trial" begins in six to eight months. Her legal fees have already been successfully crowd-funded.
And, in a demonstration of an equally powerful malevolent force working in lock-step with academic feminism:
Janice Fiamengo is being hauled before the Ontario "Social Justice" Tribunal:
A former student has accused Janice of a human rights violation which will go to trial before the Social Justice Tribunal of Ontario. The University of Ottawa is a co-defendant in this case and is of course represented by their own lawyer. Recent cases have demonstrated quite clearly that universities are quick to throw their employees under the bus in order to appease the Social Justice mobs so the university of Ottawa cannot be trusted to protect Fiamengo. The university of Ottawa lawyer is payed to protect the University of Ottawa NOT Janice Fiamengo. Any deal offered or struck will consider only the interests of the university, the social justice tribunal, and the student. Janice Fiamengo will be considered expendable throughout this process. The proper name for this "Social Justice" Tribunal process is "tyranny".
Her "trial" begins in six to eight months. Her legal fees have already been successfully crowd-funded.

Jealousy of power motivates social justice warriors
So says Professor Jordan (shove your stupid pronouns) Peterson. Plus, a fascinating dissection of pure SJW bullshit. Professor Peterson is clearly feeling harassed and bullied and won't stand for it:

How to stamp out cultural Marxism
In a single generation:
It is ... no mistake that cultural Marxists in the form of "social justice warriors", PC busybodies and feminists tend to create artificial divisions between people and “classes” while attacking and homogenizing very real and natural divisions between individuals based on biological reality and inherent genetic and psychological ability.
... The insane lie that cultural Marxists seem to have conned themselves and others into believing is that their “activism” is somehow anti-establishment. In fact, social justice is constantly coddled and supported by the establishment. ... Cultural Marxists ARE the establishment.

Social Justice Warriors Morons
Jason Kenney complimented a young, recent immigrant on his "perfect unaccented English" and "social justice" loons flew off the handle:
Heather Mallick: "In praising an Iraqi refugee boy’s “perfect unaccented English,” Kenney found a new note on the Tory dog-whistle."TheRebel's Sheila Gunn Reid:
Huff Po and the Twitter-sphere: "For the second time in less than a week, Canada's incumbent multiculturalism minister is raising eyebrows for his comments."

Study: Don't be judgemental towards self-identifying vampires
Rachel Dolezal, a purely white woman, self identifies as a black woman. What's next?
How about self-identifying as a vampire:
How about self-identifying as a vampire:
Research led by D.J. Williams, director of social work at Idaho State University, indicated that people who identify themselves as “real” vampires ... would not disclose their practices to those in the helping professions and risk reactions like ridicule, disgust and possible diagnosis of a mental illness. [Yah think?!]
The paper, published in the latest issue of Critical Social Work, a peer-reviewed journal based in Canada, found that authentic vampires ... might be stereotyped by clinicians whose fields discourage biases ... [concluding]:
It may be politically incorrect, but I think I'll file this under "batshit crazy".... social workers and helping professionals should learn more about alternative identities and communities, listen and learn from clients, strive to become more aware of our own potential biases and stereotypes, and interrogate and challenge common social discourses that pathologize and demonize.
... Clinicians should continually work to infuse core professional values and ethical standards and principles, including social justice, dignity, and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, competence, social diversity, and client self-determination [hitting nearly every po-mo, pc buzzword in the social "science" lexicon].

"White privilege" theory - academia a waste of time and money, and worse
Rex Murphy:
I’ve seen the captious phrase “white privilege” — a camp neologism by my reading — very often lately. It emerges from the intellectual marshes of social justice “educators,” a typical pseudo-concept from that roiling pastiche of academic pursuit. The radical academics who push this po-mo nonsense should be run off our campuses, and the faculties from which they push it should be shut down. They are clearly a horrendous waste of taxpayers' money, but, much worse, they are polluting the minds of gullible young students and damaging society at large.
... The obsession of seeing everything in race-coloured terms is itself racist. Anti-racism pursed by zealots transforms itself into the very vice it deplores. This is the cost of identity politics, and its close bedmate, victimology enterprises. ...
... It is to the great shame of modern universities that they have debased themselves to the pursuit of these follies ...

Nova Scotia's awful cyber abuse law
The Nova Scotia law defines cyberbullying:
Jerry Agar with Anthony Furey:
3(1)(b) "cyberbullying" means any electronic communication through the use of technology including, without limiting the generality of the foregoing, computers, other electronic devices, social networks, text messaging, instant messaging, websites and electronic mail, typically repeated or with continuing effect, that is intended or ought reasonably be expected to cause fear, intimidation, humiliation, distress or other damage or harm to another person's health, emotional well-being, self-esteem or reputation, and includes assisting or encouraging such communication in any way;Jesse Brown summarizes the law and his objections:
... Ultimately, bullying is in the eye of the bullied. For many, cyberbullying is equal to a negative thing said about them on the Internet. I’ve met restaurant owners who feel they’re being cyberbullied by Chowhound critics.
... [Referring to the above definition] If this is the standard, I don’t know a person who isn’t a cyberbully.
[...]
Nova Scotia’s Cyber Safety Act is in clear conflict with our Charter rights to free expression, and I can’t imagine it withstanding a legal challenge on those grounds. But that will take time.
Until then, watch what you say in Nova Scotia, and be very careful not to hurt anyone’s feelings. [And no doubt coming soon in your province.]It looks like Human Rights Commission/Tribunal kangaroo justice Mark II.

Men are over-represented in our prisons, so ....
... shouldn't they get special consideration and lighter sentences? Jerry Agar discusses institutional racism in our "justice" system:
Naturally, according to the "experts", we need an explicitly racist justice system to overcome a racist justice system ( "... [aboriginals] are the victims of a discriminatory justice system.") Huh? This is another case of social "justice" taking precedence over real justice.

No sign of Adam Smith during Sandy
Peter Foster:
... Both the Democratic governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo, and the Republican governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, leaped into Sandy’s wake to assure their constituents that under no circumstances would they allow markets to work. The most immediate and obvious result of their interventions was four-hour lineups at gas stations.
... Governor Cuomo managed not merely to disrupt markets but to cause outright panic with the kind of initiative more associated with the likes of Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez. He promised consumers 10 gallons of free gasoline ...
Mr. Christie, ... imposed gas rationing over the weekend, allowing gas purchases on alternate days based on whether your licence plate is odd or even. He had already invoked collectivist solidarity by suggesting that “During emergencies, New Jerseyans should look out for each other ... Thus he suggested little or no ... grasp of Adam Smith’s two-centuries-old insight about the butcher, the brewer, the baker and the gasoline retailer: that they serve us best by serving themselves. The biggest culprit? Public ignorance of free market principles:
In the marketplace of what passes for political ideas, a primitive sense of “fairness,” condemnation of greed and selfishness, a belief that higher prices will advantage “the rich” (because only they can afford the pricier goods), and a seemingly immutable faith that government force is the answer will beat out Economics 101 every time.Is there a chance that we'll see our school system begin to teach free market basics any time soon? Nah, they're too busy flogging "social justice".

Subverting the "education" system
This story in today's Post is yet another indicator of how widely and deeply radical social and political thinking has infiltrated the education system:
Parents, should be loudly protesting! Schools are failing at their primary job which is to educate, to provide children with the basic tools and competence needed to advance and to prepare them to think for themselves. Instead, they are wasting valuable time doing the opposite - indoctrinating impressionable kids in dubious social and political thinking while neglecting their primary responsibilities. It leads nowhere good.
... an alternative public school ... “based on the principles of participatory democracy and social equity,” as the school advertised itself. ... Eitan, then 17 years old ... said, ‘Ima [Hebrew for mother], the walls of the school are plastered with posters saying Israel: Apartheid State,’ ” ... referring to flyers mounted by a pro-Palestinian student club.
... In one of its teaching guides, the B.C. Department of Education says social justice “extends beyond the protection of rights” and aims for a “just and equitable society.”
... In its 2010 Social Justice Action Plan, the Toronto District School Board defines social justice ...
... In New Brunswick, one Grade 4 teacher drew ire ...
... In Ontario, one school sent Grade 1 students home with day-planners that highlighted an “International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People” and “International Day of Zero-Tolerance on Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting.”
... another Ontario school sent Grade 7 students to a protest hosted by the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty, a notoriously confrontational activist group that advocates militantly for economic equality.
... In Quebec, one eco-friendly elementary school excluded a six-year-old boy from a teddy-bear contest because his lunch box contained a plastic bag rather than a reusable container. This guy has it right:
“That’s an illegitimate use of the school’s authority,” said British sociologist Frank Furedi. “It’s not up to the schools to determine the behaviour and values of the family. A child’s education should not be confused with politicization, nor is it about internalizing the values of their teachers.”This story should set off alarm bells for parents who haven’t been paying attention. It’s clear that the "education" system has become saturated with the highly dubious, radically toxic ideologies of postmodernist moral and cultural relativism, multiculturalism and so-called "social justice". Check out the web-sites of the teachers’ unions and university departments of education and see how far they’ve gone and plan to go to perpetuate these claptrap social(ist) theories by brazenly indoctrinating children and students from K through U.

Social justice indoctrination at UBC
Just came across this article about the UBC Faculty of Education's new program for "infusing" students with politically correct thinking:
Social justice, diversity and aboriginal perspectives will be dominant themes in all courses offered by the University of B.C. education faculty starting next fall as a result of a program overhaul that’s been in the works for several years.
The subjects won’t be taught as separate courses but will be infused throughout the curriculum, Associate Dean Rita Irwin said in an interview this week. “The program will have a very different look and feel,” she noted.Good grief! This isn't "education" it's Orwellian indoctrination in leftist group think.

BC's radical sex-ed agenda
We've heard a lot lately about Ontario's controversial sex-ed program. Now BlazingCatFur highlights a similarly radical agenda being pushed in BC. (See also.)
It's part of a broader program of social engineering/indoctrination in public schools and beyond as is made obvious by the BCTF's "Social Justice" web page:
It's part of a broader program of social engineering/indoctrination in public schools and beyond as is made obvious by the BCTF's "Social Justice" web page:
... an organization of professionals, we accept and act on our broad responsibility to be involved in the social development of the communities and the province we live in, and we do this in the interests of the children we teach. ["... broad responsibility ..."? According to who?]
... The social justice initiatives of the Federation focus on poverty, child and youth issues, race relations, gender equity, homophobia and heterosexism, bullying, environmental issues, globalization, and violence prevention. In addition, the Federation has an advisory committee on Aboriginal education. [They haven't left out many of the social activists' favourite buzz words.]This can lead nowhere good. Warm, fuzzy conservatism
Speaking of "altruism", Joanne at BLY hits on an example of Conservative warm-heartedness:
... the prime minister's government is also quietly bankrolling one of the largest social pilot projects ever seen in Canada, paying generously for cutting-edge research that is changing the lives of hundreds of homeless people.
... taking their cue from Harper, officials decided to zero in on a sub-group: the mentally ill.
... Then they narrowed their focus further. In five cities across the country, they targeted a particularly vulnerable sector of the mentally ill homeless population.Interesting story, but I have trepidations. As long as this is research oriented, limited in scope and under Conservative watch I don’t mind the feds taking the lead. The targeted group is certainly the most deserving of help. And it beats the hell out of “safe injection sites”. However, how long will it be before this morphs into an unsustainable “national strategy” to fulfill the peoples’ bogus “right to housing”. A Lib/Dipper coalition would certainly attempt to turn it into that in a heartbeat - shades of their National Daycare Plan.
... When governments, both federal and provincial, see the final results, he is convinced they will see the need to take housing-first to a national scale and someone will step up with funding. And don’t proponents of these schemes always promise that they will be saving a pile of money? Sure they do:
"Once it's finished, we're going to make sure that every government in the country knows we saved them a whole pile of money,"Be afraid.

What is social justice? - Part II
Charles Kadlec's "Social Justice, Greed And The Occupy Wall Street Movement":
Occupy Wall Street (OWS) has provided a rare up-close and personal look at a social system animated by the desire for political power that disrespects, if not completely disregards, fundamental property rights. What we can see is a society that fosters squalor, theft, rape and pillage and a political movement based on the very greed it claims to abhor.
... Finally, the OWS movement demonstrates that “social justice” is based on unjust policies similar to those they condemn. The protestors rightfully assail the bailouts of banks and Wall Street executives, but their solution is more of the same including bailouts for student loans and individuals who took out mortgages on houses they could not afford.
In truth, the OWS protestors are only skirmishing over the distribution of the spoils system they claim to abhor. Their demands for higher tax rates on the “1%” shows their desire to join those who pillage through the power of government. They call it social justice. But its credo is the same as the crony capitalists who exploit the American people through government handouts: Both seek to use political power to satisfy their needs by taking the income of others rather than through voluntary exchanges. In each case, its true name is “greed.” ...[via]
