Religion and climate change

Peter Foster: "The Pope’s eco-mmunist manifesto"
...Pope Francis’ climate Encyclical, Laudato Si’ (Praise Be), could have come from any branch of the UN, any environmental NGO, or the World Economic Forum. This is hardly surprising since they all promote Global Salvationism, which is based on projections of doom to be countered by morally-charged, UN-centric, globally-governed sustainable development and corporate social responsibility.

... The Pope appears to be blinded by a moral vision that he shares not just with Strong and Gorbachev but with Naomi Klein, Al Gore and David Suzuki: capitalism is evil, is destroying the earth, and involves oppression of the poor and a zero-sum struggle for resources that promotes war.

... The Encyclical demonizes wicked, heartless and short-sighted straw men. This unnamed “they” are proponents of “throwaway culture” and “compulsive consumerism,” of “rampant individualism” and the “self-centred culture of instant gratification.” They claim “an unlimited right to trample his creation underfoot.”  ...

Nigel Lawson: "The church of climatism"
... It is a cruel irony that, while it was science which, more than anything else, was able by its great achievements to establish the age of reason, it is all too many climate scientists and their hangers-on who have become the high priests of a new age of unreason.

... But what moves me most is that the policies invoked in its name are grossly immoral.
Global warming orthodoxy is not merely irrational. It is wicked.

Google - sanctimonious, hypocritical, rent-seeking BIRD KILLER

In the Wall Street Journal, headlined "Google Kills Birds":

Our headline has the virtue of being true—as we will explain—unlike Google executive chairman Eric Schmidt's assertion this week that people who oppose government subsidies for green energy are liars. The real charlatans are businesses like Google that use climate change as a pretext for corporate welfare.

Google, whose motto is "Don't Be Evil," announced on Monday that it is quitting the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) because of the conservative outfit's putative denial of climate change.  "Everyone understands climate change is occurring," said Mr. Schmidt. "And the people who oppose it are really hurting our children and our grandchildren and making the world a much worse place. And so we should not be aligned with such people—they're just, they're just literally lying."

In fact, ALEC takes no position on the substance of climate change.  ...

Consider Google's pledge to fund over $1.5 billion in non fossil-fuel energy. Yet Google derives most of its energy from non-renewables on the grid... It's no coincidence that Google's server in Iowa is located near one of the cheapest sources of coal-fired power in the Midwest.

Also not a coincidence is that nearly all of Google's solar and wind farms are located in states with renewable-energy mandates, which create opportunities for politically mediated profit-making ...

Google has invested about $600 million in California's solar plants such as the Ivanpah system in California's Mojave Desert. ... Ivanpah's "power towers"—which burn natural gas—incinerate about 28,000 birds annually.  ...
The $2.2 billion bird fryer was funded with a $1.6 billion federal loan, which Google and its business partners plan to repay by applying for a federal grant. ...
... Mr. Schmidt shouldn't disguise his company's mercenary motives behind false and trendy appeals to green political virtue.
... etc, etc, etc ...
Eric Schmidt - holier-than-thou, hypocritical, rent seeking bird killer.  No doubt about it.  It's what we might expect from any knee-jerk progressive crony capitalist.

"... leftism is a form of moral poison"

Dennis Prager:
... [leftismcauses otherwise decent and kind people ... to say and/or do cruel and sometimes evil things.
...a major new scholarly book, "Pathological Altruism" (Oxford University Press), explores this phenomenon of people wanting to do good things yet ending up doing bad. It applies to The New York Times ... columnist Thomas L. Friedman, who has a deep altruistic urge to bring peace to the Middle East. But because he sees the world through the liberal/left prism, he says morally reprehensible things ...
... Leftism poisons everything it influences -- from journalism to the arts to universities to religion to government to male-female relations. And ultimately leftism poisons character. This does not mean that everyone with left-wing views becomes a bad person [or] that everyone with conservative views is a good person....
... But it does mean that leftism leads to pathologic altruism, ...  Just as Mahatma Gandhi's hatred of violence led him to tell the Jews of Europe not to resist Hitler, so too has leftism led decent people who would weep at Israel's destruction to mouth the very same lies about Israel as those who seek its annihilation.
Ok, that sort of fits with the idea that much, if not most, of what passes for "altruism" is narcissistic do-goodism, mainly a trait of the left. Perhaps that (plus the malign sentiments and consequences) is what makes it "pathological" (and leftist).

Glenn Beck, a likeable Joe McCarthy

If you ask me, Senator Joe McCarthy gets a bad rap. In pursuing his anti-communist crusade he performed a valuable service.  While he may have been ham-handed, hyper-zealous and mean at times  he did achieve a certain degree of success.

Glenn Beck is doing a similar service in rooting out evil leftists who have an overtly anti-capitalist (anti-American) agenda. For instance, he got Van Jones fired from his White House 'Green Jobs Czar' appointment when he exposed him as a 9/11 Truther and an avowed communist.

Now Glenn has his sights set on Stephen Lerner for plotting to bring chaos to the US economic system.  Lerner is a high-roller with the SEIU (Obama's favorite union) and has White House access (at least 4 visits so far).  Beck has Lerner on tape at a recent meeting, plotting what can easily be characterized as sedition (Beck calls it "economic terrorism" and so does the DOJ in an arguably much more benign case).

See also, Rush Limbaugh, and a congressman's letter to AG Eric Holder.

If Bernard Von Nothaus' crime of minting Liberty Dollars is worth 15 years in the slammer, Stephen Lerner ought to get life.  Think that'll happen?

Glenn exhorts his audience to seek and find the bad guys in their unions and their governments and to "RAT 'EM OUT!"

Go, Glenn!

Legalize assisted suicide? Be careful what you wish for

Results from today’s Globe poll:

.
The Dutch and Belgian practises have become a horror story:
"Over the past two decades, the Netherlands has moved from assisted suicide to euthanasia, from euthanasia for the terminally ill to euthanasia for the chronically ill, from euthanasia for physical illness to euthanasia for psychological distress and from voluntary euthanasia to nonvoluntary and involuntary euthanasia." Herbert.Hendin MD
Some statistics from this report on the Netherlands:
2,300 people died as the result of doctors killing them upon request (active, voluntary euthanasia).
400 people died as a result of doctors providing them with the means to kill themselves (physician-assisted suicide).
1,040 people (an average of 3 per day) died from involuntary euthanasia, meaning that doctors actively killed these patients without the patients' knowledge or consent.
14% of these patients were fully competent.
72% had never given any indication that they would want their lives terminated.
In 8% of the cases, doctors performed involuntary euthanasia despite the fact that they believed alternative options were still possible.
In my opinion, if you want to kill yourself, go right ahead. But it should remain a crime for anyone to "assist". The state’s involvement (outside of criminalizing it) will eventually lead to legalized murder. The Dutch experience proves that. And in our country the medical system is a highly politicized state monopoly - a monopoly that is perpetually looking for ways to cut costs. Allowing the state the option of killing patients is highly dangerous. And I know, I know, this already happens in many (if not all) hospitals but let's not give them legal cover to expand the practice "Dutch style".
