A national disgrace: CanadaTrudeau to reward a convicted killer and traitor

Brian Lilley's outstanding piece, explains, "by the numbers", exactly why the Trudeau Liberals' $10.5M payoff and apology to convicted terrorist, Omar Khadr, is a gross insult to loyal Canadian (and allied) veterans and taxpayers:

Update: Cheryl Gallant created a "Stop Payment" letter to Justin Trudeau.  My response:
Please put a stop-payment on any cheque going to Omar Khadr until the widow of the medic he murdered has her day in court.
Any payment (much less $10.5M) and/or apology by the government of Canada to convicted, treasonous killer Omar Khadr is highly inappropriate.  It is a gross insult to Canadian and allied veterans and to all patriotic Canadian taxpayers.  The only apology owed here is your apology to all Canadians for your government's having entertained a payment and apology to Omar Khadr in the first place.
Update:  Too late.  With Parliament in recess, the public beginning summer holidays and Trudeau safely out of the country at the G20 Summit (i.e. in the dead of night) the Liberal weasels paid off Khadr and issued a public apology.

Den Tandt "praises" his long time target, Stephen Harper ...

And, as might be expected, his praise is very faint praise indeed.  Some excerpts [with Den Tandt's amplifying thoughts]:
... a good prime minister [Let's try to keep the hyperbole down, shall we?]

... a smart, basically decent, hard- working guy who, for all his flaws ... [You could say that about 70+% of Canadians, so let's concentrate on those flaws!]

... a better-than-fair steward [Right, "good", but "nothing great"]

... he is not ... the ogre he has been made out to be [by his partisan opponents, especially we in the Media Party]

... For all his failings, ran a broadly stable ship [So let me remind you, again, of all those failings.]

... nothing at all like the extremism we were led to expect [Not as extreme as his partisan opponents, especially we in the Media Party, led you to expect]
In the print version Den Tandt's column was titled: "Canada lucky to have had Harper" [Yes, after all, we could have had someone like, say, Vladimir Putin]
One supposes this is Den Tandt's idea of  a polite farewell to a favourite target.  In contrast, here are a couple of sample comments from people who begged to differ:
Best Prime Minister in 70 years, maybe more. He get's Canada. On the flip side, Zoolander says Canada has no culture or identity and is the worlds first postnational state. What an arrogant stupid insulting prick.
Harper, a pragmatic Canadian, for all Canadians. Now Zoolander is intent on picking his interest groups at the expense of the Canadian taxpayer and reversing Harper's policies for the benefit of all Canadians, even his insane left wing detractors. Irrational immigration decisions, FN secrecy, complacency regarding energy, complacency regarding prairie fires, outrageous and damaging deficits, increasing union powers at the expense of taxpayers,
 And in further contrast:

Defence Minister Sajjan's goofy "progressive" ideas

If this doesn't prove that, like Trudeau himself, Sajjan is "just not ready", nothing will: Negotiate with ISIS, climate change a cause of the Syrian civil war and the rise of ISIS.  Good grief!!

Neither Sajjan nor Trudeau will ever be ready.

The Liberals are baaackk!

Brian Lilley sees Liberal corruption in the reversal of Conservatives' union secret ballot legislation:
The minister in charge of the labour file ... doesn’t have a clue what she’s talking about....

Elections Canada partisan, corrupt

Brian Lilley:
Elections Canada offered a sole sourced contract worth nearly $1 million to the Assembly of First Nations to engage in voter outreach even as key members of the organization made highly partisan statements calling for the defeat of the Conservative government. ...

ISIS supporters give Trudeau a big cheer

Brian Lilley:

And why not? Though they'd be no less inclined to cut his head off, given the chance.

The disgusting, cynical, political exploitation of a tragedy

Brian Lilley: Media, opposition exploit child's death to attack Harper

And, btw:

And these are raw totals. Per capita or relative to GDP, that puts Canada at the top of the heap by a wide margin.

The latest from the Fiscal Monitor: a $5B budget surplus

Brian Lilley:

"... what is happening in oil and gas and a few other sectors of the economy things will not be great going forward and probably are not as rosy as some Conservatives will have you believe but they also are not nearly as bad as the doom and gloom preached by the NDP and Liberals. ..."

An open letter to Robert Fife and all the other media jackals at the "Duffy" trial

John Pepall: Mike Duffy's trial by media:
Sub judice. It’s the idea that when a matter is before the courts we should follow the allegations, the evidence and the arguments but leave the courts to decide what to make of it all.

... sub judice is not just some quaint leftover from the days when lawyers were supposed to know some Latin. It has a point: that matters that are to be decided by the courts should be left to them to decide; that they should not be subject to popular pressure telling them what to do.

... The media, when it is not just partisan, which much of it is, is flopping between unctuousness and the cultivation of populist [resentment] against anyone comfortable on the taxpayer’s dime.

...  It’s juicy gossip. And like all gossip, it is fuelled by malice and ignorance. ...
And while the column is about Duffy's trial, the most recent phase has really been the trial-by-media of Stephen Harper.  Pepall's column would make a good open letter directed to the likes of Robert Fife (CTV) and Andrew Coyne (Post Media) [explicitly excluding Christy Blatchford].

Election 2015 is on!

The Prime Minister, as expected, dropped the writ today, with the Media Party absurdly whining about Conservatives' taking "unfair advantage".  Good grief!  Brian Lilley reacts:

Terry Milewski can be an idiot sometimes.  It's part of the job description for Media Party "reporters".

Bill 377 - union bosses' loss a victory for transparency

Brian Lilley:

Congratulations to my soon to be retired MP, Russ Hiebert, for his success in getting this private members' bill passed into law.  It will look good on his resume.

And shame on Justin Trudeau and Tom Mulcair for opposing such common sense legislation.  They wouldn't be taking union money, would they?

Gay marriage - Some lessons from Canada for Americans on what to expect next

Brian Lilley breaks it down:

In stunning contradiction of his position a very short time ago, Obama was overjoyed with the US Supreme Court ruling, and even had the White House bathed in rainbow colors.  But his former senior adviser, David Axelrod, explained that there was no contradiction - Obama was lying.  Well, that's OK then!

Papal climate folly, progressive hypocrisy

Secular progressives ordinarily have nothing but disdain, even hate, for Catholic (or any other Christian faith's) moral teachings. But when the Pope foolishly expounds on a controversial scientific matter in a way that appears to align with their own beliefs, these same progressives suddenly declare that he's the man we all must carefully heed.

Brian Lilley amplifies:

One has to wonder if the Pope realizes that his climate encyclical has put him in league with Catholicism's enemies.

Religion and climate change

Peter Foster: "The Pope’s eco-mmunist manifesto"
...Pope Francis’ climate Encyclical, Laudato Si’ (Praise Be), could have come from any branch of the UN, any environmental NGO, or the World Economic Forum. This is hardly surprising since they all promote Global Salvationism, which is based on projections of doom to be countered by morally-charged, UN-centric, globally-governed sustainable development and corporate social responsibility.

... The Pope appears to be blinded by a moral vision that he shares not just with Strong and Gorbachev but with Naomi Klein, Al Gore and David Suzuki: capitalism is evil, is destroying the earth, and involves oppression of the poor and a zero-sum struggle for resources that promotes war.

... The Encyclical demonizes wicked, heartless and short-sighted straw men. This unnamed “they” are proponents of “throwaway culture” and “compulsive consumerism,” of “rampant individualism” and the “self-centred culture of instant gratification.” They claim “an unlimited right to trample his creation underfoot.”  ...

George Will (video): "Pope Francis comes from a Latin American, anti-capitalist strand of Catholicism"

Nigel Lawson: "The church of climatism"
... It is a cruel irony that, while it was science which, more than anything else, was able by its great achievements to establish the age of reason, it is all too many climate scientists and their hangers-on who have become the high priests of a new age of unreason.

... But what moves me most is that the policies invoked in its name are grossly immoral.
Global warming orthodoxy is not merely irrational. It is wicked.

Tim Ball: "Is The Catholic Church Burned By The Sun Again?"

Brian Lilley (video): "Progressives find religion in Papal climate change statement"

An absurd response to an absurd Supreme Court ruling

Canada's legal education system is producing a surplus of bozos and nitwits (aka liberals).  They are everywhere, most notably even on the Supreme Court.  Dimmer bulbs settle for serving as counsel to cities.  The Richmond Hill city council's legal team, taking an absurd Supreme Court ruling to an even more absurd extreme, appear not to have read even the first sentence of our constitution:

"Liberal" idiocy is out of control! We're doomed!

Media bias in coverage of Mike Duffy versus coverage of Liberals

Brian Lilley compares the "wall to wall" coverage of Senator Mike Duffy's trial versus the relatively scant coverage of Liberal and convicted child porn offender, Benjamin Levin:

And, at Crux of the Matter, Sandy compares Mike Duffy's treatment with that of Liberal Senators Jim Munson and Mac Harb. The Duffy/Munson comaprison is interesting because of the similarity of the two individuals:
Both Senators Jim Munson and Mike Duffy were born in Atlantic Canada and are 68 years of age. Both were also former journalists, including being foreign correspondents at crucial events in history.

Political correctness has important Christian issues being stifled while minor Muslim issues get undue attention

Brian Lilley:
There's been lots of talk about religious freedom, but it's all about one issue: the niqab and whether Muslim women can wear one during citizenship ceremonies.
