... Critics, not for the first time, panned him. Social media excoriated him, and liberals labelled him “weird” and “strange” because — shock! — he talked to an empty chair. It was a hilarious send-up of Obama. Liberals hated it - so much the better.
Which just goes to show how these people have lost their sense of humour and the ability to link actors to props. ...
Mark Steyn - Play Clinty For Me :
... Clint is a brilliant actor, and a superb director of other actors (...In the last five years, he’s directed eight films) ... . He’s also ... a terrific jazz improviser at the piano — and, in film and music documentaries, an extremely articulate interviewee. So I wouldn’t assume that the general tenor of his performance wasn’t exactly as he intended. The hair was a clue: No Hollywood icon goes out on stage like that unless he means to.Update [via sda] "Monday - Empty Chair Day":
Oh, and next time ’round, he should sing.
The sign next to the chair says:
“We own this country . . . Politicians are employees of ours . . .
And when somebody does not do the job, we’ve got to let them go.”

For the record, I saw Clint Eastwood's performance and loved it. Of the speeches I saw, I think Eastwood and Rice were the best (for different reasons).
The GOP has some great speakers all right. Rubio, Rice, Ryan, Romney X 2 (just to mention the 'R's).
Eastwood and Rice are still my favourites. From what I saw (and admittedly, I only saw about 6-10 speeches) Rice and Eastwood's were the best. Pawlenty's was embarrassing. A stream of anti-Obama jokes. Was that representative? (This is a real question, I don't know and do wonder).
Paul Ryan out and out lied about a number of things, no question. As a principled Conservative, how do you square yourself with that?
"Ryan...lied about a number of things, no question ..."
Yes question: Can you name one?
FactCheck.org has something on Ryan's speech.

anon1152, it turns out the fact checkers are the ones who lied...
Try keeping up with current events.

The funny thing about the nay sayers is the seemed to have forgotten that Clint Eastwood is an actor.
Watch the speech again (go ahead, it's on YouTube and other video sites) and watch how the cadence changes whenever he is making a point; he is a man still in full control of his abilities and talent, and made an even more telling impact than the more overt political speeches because it was subtle. It even caused Obama to forget the dignity of his office (yet again) by sending a message on Twitter right away; one that was seized on and turned around by the political right as another message of mockery.
There will be no moment like this from the DNC, they have no sense of irony or humour, and putting an actor on stage now will simply be sen as a cheap "me too" stunt.
Stan: could you point me in the direction of any debunkings done on the factcheck.org piece?
