"One should doubtless keep an open mind...though open at both ends, like the food pipe, and have a capacity for excretion as well as intake." -- Northrop Frye, 'The Great Code'
With that sort of support, you'd think a political party might have tapped into it by now and proffered a revitalization of a Canadian identity, as well as completely overhauling immigration policy and education ideals.
It does makes one wish our so-called "conservative" pols had more of John Howard's balls when he renamed the Aussie 'Dept of Immigration and Multiculti Affairs' the 'Dept of Immigration and Citizenship' and told reporters “I think the title of the new department expresses the desire and the aspiration, and that is that people who come to this country, who emigrate, immigrants, become Australians”.
I give Jason Kenney some credit for downplaying the official multicult part of his portfolio. However, kinda like HRCs, official multicult doctrine and policy are pretty deeply embedded in the system both federally and provincially. The elites have spoken. We peons, the 80%, are expected to shut our ignorant traps and keep in step.
"It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences." -- C. S. Lewis

Bravo! This has restored my belief in the Canadian people somewhat.
As for immigration: It's a privilege, not a right ... and when in Rome ....
Well, I find that I always like immigrants who speak English better than the ones who don't.
If you come to Canada, aka the greatest country in the world, you'd better follow suit while having pride from where you're from. Bravo.
Officially-sanctioned language apartheid in Canada sux.
...and the mope and wail made it disappear for some reason

Unfortunately all our political parties are too busy ethnic pandering.
