Cherry declines RMC honorary degree

Concerned controversy may take away from "a special day," Don Cherry has declined an honorary degree from the Royal Military College.

"I can't accept the degree and I won't attend the convocation," Cherry said in an interview Friday about the Nov. 17 ceremony in Kingston. "I am sad because I was really looking forward to spending time with the 800 cadets."

Perhaps instead they can line up to get their picture taken with French Professor Catherine Lord.

It is because of her bizarre and vitriolic complaints that the legendary hockey coach and commentator wont be there. ...
Too bad Cherry bowed to the loony objections of one pc nitwit. I hope RMC faculty and cadets don't let Lord forget what a fruitcake they think she is.

P.S. "Catherine Lord" is listed among RMC faculty not as a "Professor" but as "Teacher, Second-Language".

Update: Hunter at 'Climbing Out Of The Dark' notes that RMC Language Centre Director, one JEJ Lord (LCol retired), is related to his underling language teacher.   (Thanks to Sean in the comments.)

Don will long be remembered for this class act, long after she is dismissed and ignored.

This really bothers me, how can one lefty ruin the grad of 800 cadets? I think the cadets should revolt!

Pierre's forced 'bilingualism" strikes again! The RMC is historically an English speaking institution, that is up until Pierre Turdo made it "bilingual". Freedom of thought is now strictly verboten... and why? Because some insignificant french talker has a hate on for Don Cherry, and under the rules laid out by Turdo, french talkers are more equal then everyone else. The RMC should fire Lord and let her take her bigotry and intolerance back to Quebec where the suppression of English and the rights of English speakers are trampled upon daily, and indeed celebrated by french talkers The fact that it takes only one french talking bigots supremacist nature to censor and silence the will of the majority is stunningly idiotic. The hypocrisy is staggering. Pierre's forced "bilingualism is a cancer on this nation, and this latest stunt is just more proof that french talkers are more equal then others. Does anyone seriously believe that if an English speaking "teacher" complained about Duceppe, or some other french talking supremacist receiving an honourary degree that anyone would care, let alone the faculty? Outrageous!

No doubt about it. Given his tremendous support of the troops and all his charitable work, Don Cherry more than deserved the honour.

Catherine Lord and the others on the faculty board who objected are narrow-minded, mean-spirited pc scolds and nitwits (ie. typical of today's academia).

Is anyone here capable of refuting the ideas expressed in her open letter without resorting to character assassination? She expressed a sentiment shared by many, don't give her so much power. If Mr. Cherry is truly not attending because of one person, he's not nearly as bold as his brash, boorish commentary often suggests. Need a pair, Mr. Cherry? Maybe Ms. Lord can lend you hers.

Just ignore her and send congratulations to Don Cherry for showing such class.

I'm sure this will come as no surprise to anyone, but it turns out that french language activist and bigot Mrs. C Lord is related to the "Language centre Director" LCOL, (ret.) JEJ. Lord. Nepotism and cronyism is alive and well in the french language activist industry, an industry we're all forced to pay for. I'm sure just a small example of the corruption so prevalent in the language industry. Thanks to 'climbing out of the dark" for the unsurprising news on this blatant nepotism.

Cherry is a military cheerleader. That is a pretty lame basis for an honorary degree. Honorary degrees are supposed to be granted for a life of accomplishment.

Sean, Thanks for pointing out the Lord family nepotism.

Anonymous troll, Speaking of character assassination, that's exactly what Catherine Lord (and, apparently, you) is guilty of. As is typical of most PC leftist bigots, she shouts the "racist" and "homophobe" slurs to put down someone she doesn't like (but doesn't really know beyond the bigoted leftist caricature). Cherry is neither racist nor homophobic. And here's one gay man who'd agree.

Thanks for the link JR. Very touching and accurate post. Nice to read someone who doesn't feel the need to try and demonize Mr. Cherry. God bless our men and woman in uniform and their families.
