Fact checking the Pinocchio-in-Chief

During his SOTU address yesterday Obama boasted about US diplomacy success in negotiations with Iran saying:

"... for the first time in a decade we've halted the progress of its nuclear program and reduced its stockpile of nuclear material ..."

That might be nice, except that "he outright lied"!



More fact checking at Politico and the WaPo.  Of note (from the WaPo) was his global warmist claim:

“2014 was the planet’s warmest year on record. Now, one year doesn’t make a trend, but this does – 14 of the 15 warmest years on record have all fallen in the first 15 years of this century.”

That may not have been a "lie", technically, because he was just regurgitating the NASA-NOAA-NCDC alarmist bullcrap.

On the news that Post Media has gobbled up Quebecor's English language Sun newspapers, Chris Selley wrote one of his typically snotty, derisive pieces on Ezra Levant and Sun News Network.

Chris Selley suffers from Levant Derangement Syndrome (LDS).  He writes as if all he has watched of Ezra’s prime-time show is his most recent hilarious "outrage" (eg. bringing up the foppish Liberal leader’s parentage).  It’s not that exposing Trudeau’s supreme unfitness for Canada’s top job isn’t important work but Selley has, apparently, missed the other 99.9% of Ezra’s excellent work including but not limited to:

Freedom (free speech, free enterprise, democracy and the rule of law)
Lib/left media (the Media Party) group think
environmentalism
the global warming debate
anti-oil fanaticism
fracking
foreign funding of Canadian radicals
“Occupy”, “Idle No More”,  and other radical leftist “movements”
Islamicism and the war on terror
anti-Christian bigotry on the lib/left
China, Russia, 
Putin, Ukraine ...
...

For a full hour show, five days a week, he covers this wide range of topics (often personally, on the street and in the field) with great wit and intelligence, interviewing knowledgeable, expert guests with skill, aplomb and respect.  Selley and his LDS aside, let  us hope and pray that Sun News with Levant, Lilley, Coren and many others continues and never, ever, falls under the management of a Media Party conglomerate.

A misguided pope?

Pope Francis Attacks Capitalism, Calls for State Control

In a far-ranging 50,000 word statement released by Pope Francis on Tuesday, he illustrated that he is sympathetic to the tenets of liberation theology and hostile to capitalism. 

... Before the advent of  liberation theology, Catholicism hated socialism and communism, regarding them as “godless.” Pope Leo XIII (1878-1903) wrote an entire encyclical condemning socialism.

But now Pope Francis seems to be embracing a condemnation of capitalism instead, and an embracing of socialistic principles.

Some of the Pope's conservative supporters, like Michael Coren, defend his rhetoric, saying that his critics misunderstand him:



I think Anthony Furey is closer to the truth, but even if you accept Coren's point of view the fact that so many on the loopy left just love what Pope Francis has to say is deeply problematic.  He's feeding them ammo.

About that quote from the Pope:

 His opinion of capitalism seems clear.  But he's dead wrong.  Free markets (under the rule of law) actually do "bring about greater justice and inclusiveness".  Everyone is free to participate, and if "justice" includes raising 100s of millions of people out of poverty, then the "facts" overwhelmingly favor free markets.

He's full of BS on everything else as well.  The "naive trust ... in the goodness of those wielding  economic power ..." he says has not benefited some ("the excluded are still waiting").

Capitalism excludes no one.  And what are they "waiting" for? The odds are that if they are waiting in poverty it's because they lack freedom and free markets, not because of capitalism.  One could just as well point to the Catholic Church, centuries old champion of the poor, as having failed those same supposedly "excluded" people.

Good column - Selley is honest - even though, as is typical of many snotty liberal elitists, he doesn't like Cherry or, by extension, the Canada he reflects. While I appreciate Selley's honesty, I don't share his antipathy.  Don Cherry would be one of my most-favourite uncles.

Saudi textbooks are loaded with propaganda of a type that is used in wartime to dehumanize the enemy ("swine" and "apes") in the minds of  the warring nation's citizens and warriors.

The Saudi Wahabists are at war with the West and unless we realize that fact and act to defend ourselves and to aggressively take the offensive we are doomed to lose. Given our terrorist-hugging leftist media, academia and ... our prospects seem poor.
 
Maybe a good place to start would be the introduction of Frank Miller's "Holy Terror" into our school curricula.

Hatred and contempt

Those were the emotions I felt on watching Ezra Levant’s show this week covering the 1998 conviction of Mark Harding (see also) for his "hate" crime. I felt visceral hatred and contempt towards:

- politicians responsible for Canada’s laws criminalizing ideas and emotions;
- Muslims who took offence and had Mark Harding charged under these “hate” laws;
- the “justice” system (especially the judges) that enforced these laws, and;
- the mainstream media who ignored Mark Harding’s persecution (until SunTV arrived).

Each of these groups is “identifiable” and the events surrounding Mark Harding’s persecution has “incited my hatred against” them. And while I may not be so inclined, who knows how “likely” it might be for other hot-heads to “breach the peace” in response.  I suspect no less likely than was Mark Harding’s “hate” crime.

So, if I read the “publicly communicated” criminal code correctly (at least the politically correct courts’ interpretation of it), we have an absurd situation where the “hate” crime laws have themselves incited hatred and charges should be lain - and lending new feasibility to the expression “go f**k yourself”.

Until now I thought that the “human rights” bureaucracy was the threat - that the criminal code would not be used to abuse freedom of speech. Live and learn.
