Disgusting! The Ottawa Citizen provides a platform to a convicted Islamist killer

Giving a convicted Islamist killer op-ed space in a newspaper is bad enough.  But doing it on the day of the funeral of a victim of Islamist terrorism is beyond the pale.  The editors of the Ottawa Citizen should hang their heads in shame.

I think Ezra had it right when he opined that the op-ed was actually drafted by the murderer's lawyers as propaganda in their lawsuit against the Canadian taxpayers.  That makes the Ottawa Citizen complicit in a law suit on behalf a convicted terrorist.  Even more disgusting!

Trying to understand the liberal mindset

Ezra Levant explores "Why liberals downplay terrorism":
... Their first reflex is to deny that it’s terrorism at all ...
... The next liberal reflex is to deny that an attacker is Muslim.
... The third liberal reflex is to say a terrorist attack was just the act of a madman.
... The fourth liberal line of defence is to say the attacker is a lone wolf.

... That’s the liberal spin playbook: deny it’s terrorism, deny it’s Muslim, call it insanity, and finally call it a rogue act.

... But why? Why do liberals go to such lengths to revise the motives of terrorists, who are quite clear about their goals?  ... Why do liberals try to revise history, and whitewash the war against us?
Because ...
... liberals have abolished the ideas of good and evil as too judgmental. Terrorists? No, our enemies are actually victims themselves, you see. We are privileged. Society is to blame.
...Liberals cannot understand so much hate against us. So liberals sympathize. Liberals help find the answer. They join in. To justify the hate.
In today's Van Sun there were more than a half dozen letters illustrating the liberal mindset.

And here's a doozy - a recent National Post article began with "It's been a tough week for Canadian Muslims" [h/t Blazing Cat Fur] [As an aside - the article referred to a mosque in Cold Lake that had been vandalized, to which my reaction was: "Cold Lake has a mosque?"]

Update (from the comments): Mark Steyn back in 2010 on "Crying Lone Wolf" and more recently with Breitbart on the same theme.

Homegrown Brit jihadi dies in Kobani

A good argument for NOT withholding jihadi passports:
A 19-year-old former private school student has become the latest British-born jihadi to die fighting for ISIS in Syria.

... the fourth fighter from the city of Portsmouth to be killed fighting for the terror group.

His family confirmed his death in a statement that said: "Mehdi was a loving boy with a good heart wishing to help Syrians...."

Hassan was also a prolific tweeter under his pseudonym Abu Dujana. In his last tweet before he died, he wrote:
"Between 20-40 us strikes daily in ayn al arab. Alhamdulillah they are spending $10's of billions...against themselves." 6:41 AM - 17 Oct 2014
Good riddance.

Violent chaos in Ottawa follows Islamist attack in Quebec

Just two days after the deadly Islamist jihadi attack in Quebec comes a deadly attack in Ottawa.  It's yet to be determined who the shooter(s) are.  My bet is, of course, on the Islamists.  Standing by for more news (and more pacifist left/lib and "moderate" Muslim excuse making).

This horrible news is getting wall to wall coverage, even in the USA.

Update - Mark Steyn opines:

Jonathan Kay's dishonesty, the video

Here's the video version of Ezra's Sun column (see post below):

Based on his conflict of interest, Kay should be immediately relieved of his position as Post editorial page editor. Based on his dishonesty and ethical lapse he should be fired from the Post entirely. Will he be?

Jonathan Kay is a partisan, hopelessly conflicted Media Liberal Party hack

Ezra Levant provides absolute proof in "The book on Jonathan Kay":
Jonathan Kay, the comment editor of the National Post, took half a page in his newspaper last month to criticize me for criticizing Justin Trudeau.
I had insulted Trudeau, said Kay. So Kay insulted me as “cruel,” “hysterical,” “low,” “vile,” “half-demented” and “mendacious.” And he accompanied his column with a huge, unflattering picture of me. He said I wasn’t really even a journalist.

...  the Toronto Star dropped the bombshell that Kay assisted in the creation of Trudeau’s new book.

... I asked my old frenemy how he could keep his Trudeau work a secret from his readers, while choosing what the newspaper’s comment section would publish about Trudeau. His excuse was laughable ...
Well we always knew he was Media Party hack - now we know he's a paid Liberal Party hack. The only question now is when/if the National Post will fire his unethical ass.

Here's Kay's excuse making today.

Liberal attack columns TV networks and newspaper chains

Media Party columnists hacks routinely bleat about those mean Harperites and their "attack ads" against boy-Justin.  Which is really rich coming from the set that has entire newspaper chains and TV networks at their disposal to attack Conservatives on a daily basis, all at no expense to Liberals.

Stephen Maher, a "Robocall" hysteric, is one of those.  Presumably to coincide with the release of Trudeau's new autobiography, yesterday Maher enthused about a new book by Michael Harris smearing Stephen Harper "Party of One: Stephen Harper and Canada’s Radical Makeover":
... Michael Harris writes about the Harper- Finkelstein link...
... Harper is inspired by Republicans, a leader hostile to Canada’s system of parliamentary democracy, and in Party of One Harris meticulously traces what he sees as Harper’s attack on that system.
... Harris connects the dots between Harper and Finkelstein, who is nicknamed the “merchant of venom” because of his skill with attack ads....
In other words Harris' book is chock-a-block with paranoid anti-Harper venom.  Of course neither Harris nor Maher would mention that Trudeau's campaign is inspired (if not actively advised) by Barack Obama's crew and that Obama has actually vowed to "fundamentally transform America".

Maher does, however, bring up the Media Party's recent phony outrage over alleged Conservative copyright abuse:
... Harper has been fighting to make Canada safe for attack ads.  ... Last week, leaked cabinet documents showed that he wants to change copyright law to allow political parties to use news footage in attack ads.
You'd expect that Maher, as a journalist, would know full well that under copyright fair dealing provisions political parties have long been allowed to use news footage in political ads.  What Maher could also be reasonably expected to know, but fail to mention (naturally), is that the real scandal in this is that the heads of CBC, CTV, Global and CityTV "news" organizations had been secretly colluding (conspiring) to thwart those provisions by mutually agreeing (forming a cartel) not to run Conservative ads using their news clips.

This was all in a corrupt effort to protect Justin Trudeau from his own idiotic musings and, while they were at it, attempt to smear Harper.  This is, apparently, their idea of objectivity and ethics in the news business.  The up-side is that now those CBC, CTV, Global and CityTV "news" executives face criminal charges, big fines and even jail time for violating the Competition Act.

Conservatives use paid "attack" ads, as do all the other parties.  Liberals use the Media Party's attack newspapers and attack TV networks full time, at no expense to themselves.

Doctor assisted suicide.

Barbara Kay's column gets it mostly right - Suicide is none of Medicare’s business.  Doctor assisted suicide in the land of state monopoly medicine would present a huge ethical, moral and physical hazard.

I believe it would be an enormous conflict of interest for doctors and the medical system as a whole. I do not want our medical system looking to killing patients as an easier alternative to seeking a cure or easing their suffering. The American Medical Association gets it right. It’s position is (in part):
“... It is understandable, though tragic, that some patients in extreme duress--such as those suffering from a terminal, painful, debilitating illness--may come to decide that death is preferable to life. However, allowing physicians to participate in assisted suicide would cause more harm than good. Physician-assisted suicide is fundamentally incompatible with the physician’s role as healer, would be difficult or impossible to control, and would pose serious societal risks. ...”
The Canadian Medical Association, recently came up with the following weasel words (more or less): “it’s fine with us as long as doctors follow the law”. The CMA would seem to be playing down the ethical and moral hazards of doctor-assisted suicide as well as the deficiencies in our medical system.

Looking to death as a solution to medical problems is fraught with significant danger to the public, especially those already vulnerable (eg. the elderly). For example:
Treatable depression is already under-diagnosed and under-treated, especially in the elderly. With suicide as an option this situation will not improve. On the contrary, it will be exacerbated.

Palliative care experts report that the vast majority of terminally ill patients facing or fearing great pain withdraw their requests for assisted suicide once treated for depression and/or provided with proper palliative care. The problem here is that our health care system is already deficient in both depression diagnosis/treatment and palliative care. The availability of assisted suicide would lead to even lower availability of both. Clearly this would be hazardous to people who are ill and vulnerable (especially those already in, say, poverty and/or advanced age).

Many patients requesting doctor assisted-suicide are coerced by family members. There have been documented accounts of people committing suicide under pressure or duress from family members, friends or others present during their suicides. In 2010 it was reported that more than one quarter of assisted suicides in Oregon and Washington did so because they didn’t want to be a “burden” to their family. Does anyone suppose that none of those "burdens" were nudged towards suicide?
Elder abuse is widely recognized as a serious problem. Legalizing doctor-assisted suicide would make available the ultimate manifestation of that abuse.

Then there are the disabled.
Then there’s the slippery slope towards euthanasia, an even greater hazard. Many advocates for assisted suicide are really aiming for legalization of euthanasia.

Malfeasance in the "climate change" industry

Dr. Tim Ball makes the case for malfeasance (vs. error/incompetence) in climate science:
How many scientific mistakes separate incompetence from malfeasance? After watching the corruption of climate science for over 30 years, I believe we crossed the line with creation of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Its procedures were established to prove the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) hypothesis.

... The misuse of specialized methods and procedures is a fundamental problem caused by climatology being a generalist discipline. Most are specialists in a single component, who then, inappropriately, call themselves climate scientists. ... The IPCC brought together such specialists and charged them with proving, rather than disproving, the hypothesis that humans were causing global warming (AGW). It was an unholy alliance that provided an environment for misuse and abuse.

Major networks collude in attempt to limit free speech

Brian Lilley provides all we need to know about the latest Media Party attempt to
a) smear the Harper government
b) protect its candidate, Justin Trudeau, and
c) limit free speech

Hmmm, to me this smells like illegal collusion by the Media Party network weasels. (Update: Apparently it does to others, too. See BC Blue.)

Here's Brian's column on the history of this dating back to 1988 when the Liberals took the opposite position:
In November 1988, the Liberal Party of Canada went to court to force CBC and CTV to carry their attack ads against Brian Mulroney and his Progressive Conservatives.

... The networks claimed they owned the video footage in question and said the Liberal party’s use of it infringed on their copyright. The networks lost and were forced to run the ads; they were also turned down on appeal by the Supreme Court.
So now the networks are trying to pull the same bullcrap, this time supported by the Liberals?  Outrageous!

My only question is, if the SCOC has already ruled on this, what do the Conservatives want to change? PM Harper and others have already stated that the Copyright law, as is, is sufficient.

Speaking of outrageous, here's that twit, Don Martin, accusing the Conservatives of "flirting with fascism".

More here and here.

Playing with fire - major Canadian banks back environmental extremists.

Peter Foster: "Look who’s demonizing Canadian oil"
Next month, in Montreal, an organization called the Canadian Youth Climate Coalition, CYCC , is set to hold a “convergence” on pressuring institutions such as pension funds and university endowments to ditch their shares in Canadian oil and gas companies.

... the CYCC isn’t some Quixotic group of young idealists. Its divestment thrust is the offshoot of an international campaign — backed by big U.S. foundations ... part of the same movement that recently saw the Rockefeller Brothers Fund declare its intention to sell its fossil fuel interests.

Bizarrely, one of the most prominent Canadian agitators is Thomas Van Dyck, a senior executive in the Wealth Management division of the Royal Bank of Canada. CYCC has also been supported by TD Bank.

... Divest/Invest was inspired by American Bill McKibben, founder of 350.org, which CYCC acknowledges as its partner in the “Fossil Free Canada” initiative.

... In January of this year, Ellen Dorsey, executive director of the Washington-based Wallace Global Fund – a major backer of radical environmental groups — launched Divest-Invest Philanthropy ...

I put in a call to RBC asking how one of their senior employees could so vigorously attack their clients. In an email, the bank responded that “Tom’s stated views are his own,”
Look, I know that these greedy weasel banks are playing both ends against the middle to make a buck but they are playing with a fire that could get out of control and seriously damage the entire economy.  Then where would their profits be?  And our standard of living?

RBC's email response to Foster ( “Tom’s [Van Dyck's] stated views are his own”) was disingenuous to say the least.  In Moyers' interview with radical "divest leaders" Van Dyck and Dorsey Van Dyck is identified explicitly as a Senior VP with RBC wealth management and RBC's own web page touts his environmental activism and his eco-extremist connections:
"Van Dyck is the founder of As You Sow*, a shareholder advocacy foundation, and is active with environmental groups, including Rainforest Action Network, Baykeeper, Bioneers and Earth Rights International."
RBC is fully aware of Van Dyck's extreme views, connections and objectives which include the destruction of the fossil fuel industry.  It is easy to conclude that RBC is more than proud to have him on "the team".  And by employing Van Dyck in a senior wealth management role RBC has put him in a strong position to promote and advance his radical, economy destroying agenda.  RBC has implicitly endorsed that agenda.

If I were a major oil industry client of RBC I would be calling for Van Dyck's  head to roll, and failing that divesting myself of any business relationship with RBC.

Let us pray for Sun News Network

On the news that Post Media has gobbled up Quebecor's English language Sun newspapers, Chris Selley wrote one of his typically snotty, derisive pieces on Ezra Levant and Sun News Network.

Chris Selley suffers from Levant Derangement Syndrome (LDS).  He writes as if all he has watched of Ezra’s prime-time show is his most recent hilarious "outrage" (eg. bringing up the foppish Liberal leader’s parentage).  It’s not that exposing Trudeau’s supreme unfitness for Canada’s top job isn’t important work but Selley has, apparently, missed the other 99.9% of Ezra’s excellent work including but not limited to:

Freedom (free speech, free enterprise, democracy and the rule of law)
Lib/left media (the Media Party) group think
environmentalism
the global warming debate
anti-oil fanaticism
fracking
foreign funding of Canadian radicals
“Occupy”, “Idle No More”,  and other radical leftist “movements”
Islamicism and the war on terror
anti-Christian bigotry on the lib/left
China, Russia,
Putin, Ukraine ...
...

For a full hour show, five days a week, he covers this wide range of topics (often personally, on the street and in the field) with great wit and intelligence, interviewing knowledgeable, expert guests with skill, aplomb and respect.  Selley and his LDS aside, let  us hope and pray that Sun News with Levant, Lilley, Coren and many others continues and never, ever, falls under the management of a Media Party conglomerate.

A prime minister's decision to go to war

David Akin reminds us:
A Canadian prime minister determines that the activities of terrorists operating in a Muslim nation far from Canada’s shores is such a threat to Canada’s security, that he dispatches Canadian Forces on a combat mission. There is no debate or discussion in Parliament let alone a vote. There seems not to have even been a full cabinet discussion before the prime minister makes his decision. Simply a request from an American president.
That was all it took for Jean Chr├ętien to to begin what would become Canada’s decade-long war against terrorism in Afghanistan. ...
...
I've heard it said that Jean Chretien is supplying Justin Trudeau with backroom advice.  Could that be true?

Justin Trudeau on war with ISIS "the signature of an unserious mind"

Rex Murphy on Justin Trudeau's juvenile "joke" about going to war with ISIS:
Is this how an adult, a possible PM, talks? With its mixture of puerile condescension, its smug assurance that any vulgar reference to the Conservatives will “go over” with everyone, it’s an obiter dictum for the age.

... It wasn’t a slip of the tongue. ...  It was the signature of an unserious mind, not to mention a mindless hit on the pilots of Canada’s military ...
Andrew Coyne on the Trudeau/Liberal position:
... The closest he has come to justifying this utterly discreditable position is to suggest that in fact, the best contribution we could make to the fight was to stay out of it ... As the prime minister put it, “being a free rider means you are not taken seriously.”
Anyone who has followed Trudeau's litany of stupid, juvenile comments has long known that he is absolutely unsuited for the job he is seeking.  Most of the media has, up to now, (Sun News excepted)  been playing the role of "Justin's number one fan".  Is it possible that this could mark a turning point in the media's coverage (and cover-up) of Trudeau?  I can dream, can't I?

John Robson (closing with a dismal prediction):

I tend to disagree with Robson's implication that the state of Canada's military readiness is Harper's doing.  Our military has been chronically underfunded since the 1960's.  We, like the Europeans and other allies have been free-riders largely on American strength, which allowed us to spend mightily on such things as our "world class" universal healthcare. While still low in relation to our GDP, military spending rose substantially under Harper and important capabilities like, for example, the CC-177 Globemaster, have been added.

Another corporate shakedown attempt

Peter Foster:
First movie stars and now Canadian unions are lining up in Chevron shakedown in Toronto courts

Naomi Klein's logic "suffers from a rootless dislocation from history, philosophy and science"

Terence Corcoran reviews Naomi Klein’s new climate-revolution/kill-capitalism manifesto:
Parts ... make for damn good reading. ... [b]ut the good bits are not enough to salvage This Changes Everything, a 560-page call-to-arms in which Ms. Klein proposes to overthrow four centuries of Enlightenment-driven human achievement.

... A major Klein target is Richard Branson, the media-darling head of Virgin Group ...

Other green billionaries skewered are Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Michael Bloomberg and T. Boone Pickens, each of whom has a history of cozying up to the climate issue while their feet remained firmly planted in the fossil fuel world.

... her best putdowns are directed at the “pro-business environmentalists,” a Who’s Who of green activists who parade through a chapter sub-titled “The Disastrous Merger of Big Business and Big Green.”

The book’s real objective is to blame the looming climate threat on the greatest intellectual, philosophical, scientific and economic transformation in history.

The logic behind the climate mass revolt advocated by Ms. Klein suffers from a rootless dislocation from history, philosophy and science. It may also be totally dislocated from the world’s human beings, who remain, after many millennia, ever keen to improve their lives on Earth through continued and increasing dominance of nature.
Klein's advocacy of "radical bottom-up popular revolution against governments and corporations, free markets and capitalism" is a recipe for the collapse of the system that made possible unprecedented human advances. Along with that collapse would surely come political and economic chaos and the death, by starvation and war, of billions. Klein, like most of the radical eco-left, is a foolish, dangerous demagogue.

When bold-as-brass Muslims meet gullible Canadian cops ...

... you get a weird booklet about Islamic terrorism inspired and written by radical Muslims with RCMP contribution and apparent endorsement:

Those bad-ass Muslims David Harris spoke about:

Tarek Fatah contends that the RCMP has been infiltrated by radicals while truly moderate Muslims are ignored and shut out [no doubt at the behest of the radicals]:
