Most reasonable people would agree that investigating and reporting on alleged abuses by a government agency (
any government agency) is a good thing. It would also be good if there were bi-partisan support for the report and for releasing it.
Unfortunately, the release of Senate Democrat's scathing report on CIA interrogation practices was greeted with accusations of
partisanship and
hypocrisy,
praise from a Republican (John McCain),
condemnation from a Democrat (Bob Kerrey) and even
criticism from CNN.
The Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, said the Dems decided to release the report now
because:
“... we lose control. At the end of this year, the Republicans take
control. And there’s some evidence that this report would never see the
light of day,” she continued. “We believe it should see the light of
day."
