A manifesto for 2017

James Delingpole: Rules for Righties — a War-Winning Manifesto for 2017
2016 was a great year for most of usbut just because we’ve gained the beachhead doesn’t mean we’re going to win the war.
With Brexit and Donald Trump, we’ve done the equivalent of capturing everywhere from Pointe Du Hoc to Pegasus Bridge. But just like with D-Day, the worst of the fighting is yet to come. Our enemy is fanatical, determined, well organised. Plus, they still hold most of the key positions: the big banks, the corporations, the top law firms, the civil service, local government, the universities, the schools, the mainstream media, Hollywood…

New study shows NOAA exaggerated U.S. warming

James Delingpole:
Another week, another study showing that our official climate data gatekeepers have been exaggerating the extent of “global warming” to make it look more scary, more urgent, more desperately in need of extra funding for our official climate data gatekeepers…
This one, co-authored by meteorologist Anthony Watts (of Watts Up With That? fame) shows that at least half of the “global warming” in the US since 1979 has been fabricated by NOAA.
Judith Curry and Anthony Watts comment:
Curry: This looks like a solid study.  The participation of John Nielsen-Gammon in this study is particularly noteworthy; Watts writes:
Watts: "Dr. John Nielsen-Gammon, the state climatologist of Texas, has done all the statistical significance analysis and his opinion is reflected in this statement from the introduction ...Dr. Nielsen-Gammon has been our worst critic from the get-go ..."

Massive new global cooling process dicovered

Just in time for the Paris global warming hysterics:
According to a study by the Institute of Catalysis and Environment in Lyon (IRCELYON, CNRS / University Lyon 1) and the Leibniz Institute for Tropospheric Research (TROPOS), the oceans are producing unexpectedly large quantities of isoprene – a volatile organic compound (VOC) – which is known to have a cooling effect on climate.
... The news could scarcely have come at a worse time for the global climate alarmist community which has been ramping up the scaremongering message in the run up to the latest round of UN climate talks in Paris this December.

Climate alarmist outrage of the week

Scientists demand Obama use the RICO Act to silence climate skeptics:
... Twenty alarmist climate scientists – including UN IPCC lead author Kevin ‘Travesty’ Trenberth – have written a letter to President Obama urging him to use RICO laws to crush dissent by climate skeptics. Their hypocrisy and dishonesty, especially that of the main signatory, almost defies belief.....

Obama - "China's useful green idiot"

James Delingpole:
... Republican senators Roy Blunt (Missouri) and Jim Inhofe (Oklahoma) ... have just launched a challenge to the bilateral climate change “agreement” reached by President Obama with China last year ...

... Under this “agreement”, the US will cut its emissions by 26 per cent by 2025 while China will increase its “non-fossil-fuel share of energy to around 20 per cent” by 2030.

... An “agreement” in diplomacy-speak is legally or politically binding.  ... That is why both negotiating parties took care in the finished document never to use that word. Instead they chose the much vaguer word “announcement”...

... By 2030, China will be producing more CO2 than Japan, the US and the EU combined. In this context, America’s carbon reductions emission targets can properly seen for the meaningless gesture politics they really are.  ... So Senators Blunt and Inhofe are absolutely right to challenge this plan ...

Mark Carney - climate loon

Speaking of climate lunacy, James Delingpole isn't too impressed with Canada's contribution to the BoE.
Bank of England governor talks rubbish on climate change:
Three things are clear.
1. Carney cannot speak intelligible English, only evasive, flannelly CorporateSpeak.
2. Under Carney’s leadership, the Bank of England has joined the long, long list of institutions speaking well above their pay grade on the climate change issue, which it is palpably obvious they do not understand.
3. Carney, like his greenie activist wife, has bought wholesale into the climate change scare, can barely conceal his lofty contempt for those, such as Lord Lawson, who are not “with the programme”, and thus feels under no obligation to justify his position because he’s right, damn it, all the world’s climate experts say so….

Greenpeace's thuggery

James Delingpole:
All right – so accusing Greenpeace of being dishonest, bullying, hypocritical, scientifically illiterate, menacing and environmentally damaging is about as novel and contentious as suggesting that Michelangelo may have painted the Sistine Chapel.

... a compliant media ... still tends to view Greenpeace as a loveable, homespun collective of gallant eco-crusaders in chunky-knit sweaters and rubber dinghies, rather than the thuggish, overmighty zealots they actually are.

... a few examples:

The year in Liberal Stupid

James Delingpole and Milo Yiannopoulos - Part I:
JAMES: “Rape Culture"  ... If you want to know what “Rape Culture” really looks like, just pay a visit to Islamic-State-held territory in Iraq and Syria.
... Now compare and contrast with the confected, faux grievances of the West’s oppressed female Social Justice Warriors, as they battle against such appalling injustices as: their insufficient representation on bank notes ... not having been given as many Nobel-prizes as men have ...

MILO: "GameGate"  ... Gamers are the only fandom ever to mount a sustained revolt against social justice warriors riding in to “save” their hobby from “misogyny” and other invented offences.

... GamerGate, indirectly, had a huge effect on feminism in the popular imagination this year, because it showed third-wave feminism up for what it is: a hateful, bullying, authoritarian creed of funless cultural Marxism. ...
JAMES: “Torture” ... can you not see something effete, decadent and self-defeating in our enthusiasm first for washing our dirty linen in public (as the Democrat Senate report was so eager to do)...

Wind industry - "one of the most corrupt enterprises on earth"

James Delingpole on an interview with Mexican ecology professor Patricia Mora:
... Though Professor Mora is talking specifically about Mexico, what she says applies equally well to supposedly more transparent democracies such as Britain, Australia, the US, Canada and Denmark. The wind industry is necessarily one of the most corrupt enterprises on earth because it depends for its entire existence on government favours, backhanders, dishonest environmental impact assessments and on regulators turning a blind eye to the known health problems caused by wind turbine noise. Without crony capitalism, the wind industry simply would not exist. ...

Naomi Klein, the narcissistic one percenter who thinks she's Gaia

Naomi Klein has a new book out.  James Delingpole outlines what you need to know about it (and her).  A sampling of headings:

It's all about Naomi. ...
Naomi may possibly be under the illusion that she is Gaia ...

Naomi Klein is a one percenter - and therefore happily cushioned from all the economy-destroying measures she proposes ...

The interview she gave to (a clearly infatuated, slavering) Vogue is both depressing and unintentionally hilarious ...

The week in climate stupid

John Kerry's wasn't the only outburst of climate idiocy in the past week. James Delingpole reports four more in "Global Warming Jumps the Shark: the Week in Climate Stupid".

Now the Green Gestapo are coming after your meatballs

James Delingpole:
IKEA ... are considering changing the recipe of their most popular food line - meatballs - in order to help save the world from global warming:
... "On methane...we are aware of the meat issue with greenhouse gases. We are looking at all our food products from a sustainability perspective but specifically meatballs. They are very popular and they are also our most carbon-intensive food item on our menu."
... IKEA actually admits to allowing the kind of food it serves in its restaurants to be dictated not by the needs of its customers - who order 150 million plates of meatballs every year - but by activists from a hard-left environmental NGO like the World Wildlife Fund. That's not capitalism. That's not customer service. That's eco fascism.

... As Donna Laframboise has often noted, WWF activism is rife at the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) too.
As evidence of warming wanes, the climate nuttery worsens.

Shocking new phenomenon: HuffPo admits global cooling

James Delingpole:
Scientists believe they have discovered a near-unprecedented phenomenon - rarer, more elusive and mysterious than even the God Particle: an article in The Huffington Post on the subject of the environment and climate change which doesn't once mention 'man-made global warming."...

... How can this possibly be?" asked Professor Otto Spengler of the University of East Anglia's Department of Environmentalist Bullshit Studies.

... Professor Spengler and his team have been working through the night to try to analyse the phenomenon and have come up with two competing theories. 1. It's a terrible accident.... ,or 2. There has been an incredible, tectonic shift in HuffPo's understanding of the world. ...

"But we think the first explanation is more likely," added Prof Spengler.

"The HuffPo - like the Guardian and the BBC - doesn't really do science because the readers find it upsetting.  ... [Predictably the HuffPo comment thread on its article is crammed with "deniers" - of global cooling, that is.]
Classic Delingpole (who, btw, is no longer with the Telegraph).

David Cameron orders: "Ditch the green crap"

In yet another sign of a return to climate sanity:
David Cameron has ordered ministers to ditch the ‘green crap’ blamed for driving up energy bills and making business uncompetitive, it is claimed.
The Prime Minister, who once pledged to lead the ‘greenest government ever’, has publicly promised to ‘roll back’ green taxes, which add more than £110 a year to average fuel bills.
But a senior Tory source said Mr Cameron’s message in private is far blunter.  The source said: ‘He’s telling everyone, “We’ve got to get rid of all this green crap.” He’s absolutely focused on it.’

Politicians are waking up, one at a time - and none too soon.

[Via]

Update: On the other hand, James Delingpole writes: "On green issues no one talks more 'crap' than David Cameron"
... Let us not forget that only last week Cameron was explicitly linking Typhoon Haiyan to "climate change."
... David Cameron talking about cutting green crap is like King Herod talking about improved babycare for male children in Judaea.

The "Dog Sh*t Yoghurt Fallacy"

In his "controversial" essay (previous post) James Delingpole, refers to "the dog poo yoghurt fallacy" - the one that centrists looking for a middle ground in the climate wars often fall into.  In case you missed it a couple of years ago, Delingpole's original explanation of the fallacy, together with a good dose of his trademark climate warrior polemics, makes an excellent read.

Watts and Delingpole in mini-flap over tactics

The flap progressed as follows:
1. James Delingpole blogged in The Telegraph: An English class for trolls, professional offence-takers and climate activists

2. Anthony Watts wrote a blog piece, accusing James of invoking Godwin's Law and suggesting he apologize.

3. James responded in the Spectator  and The Telegraph.

4. Anthony responded to James' responses.
For the record, I side with Delingpole.  For those who take Godwin's Law too seriously, view this:

Climategate 3.0 - Climategate email leaker leaks more

James Delingpole:
FOIA – the anonymous leaker who brought the Climategate and Climategate II emails to light has emerged briefly from the shadows. He has released to selected parties (not me) the password to the cache of Climategate II emails ...

I think it's worth dwelling on some of the clues he offers as to his identity and motivation. (I'm assuming it is a "he", btw):
That's right; no conspiracy, no paid hackers, no Big Oil. The Republicans didn't plot this. USA politics is alien to me, neither am I from the UK. There is life outside the Anglo-American sphere.

If someone is still wondering why anyone would take these risks, or sees only a breach of privacy here, a few words…
Delingpole comments further:
Rings true to me. It's certainly why I'm in this game – the cause, not (laughs bitterly) the money ...

Many terrible things have resulted from the great climate scam – the debasement of the scientific method, the corruption, the rent-seeking, the greed, the lies, the blighted careers, the malfeasance, the dissemination of ignorance, the waste, the environmental damage – but the worst thing by far is the human misery it has engendered. ...
For more - two of the selected recipients of FOIA's latest leak were WUWT's Anthony Watts and Bishop Hill blogger Andrew Montford.

Britain's "great wind terror"

James Delingpole:
...[Who's responsible for] the despoliation of our matchless landscape with view-blighting, fuel-poverty-creating, sleep-denying, sick-making, flood-exascerbating, price-inflating, property-value-trashing, greed-stoking, puke-making, bird-slicing, bat-chomping eco crucifixes[?]

I'm talking about [Ed Miliband, Opposition Labour Leader] the North London Marxist trustafarian ovoid who was, as Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, more responsible than any man or weird egg-creature alive for establishing the framework for Britain's disastrous wind policy. ...
[...]
Ed Miliband commits Labour to 2030 decarbonisation target ...
... committing Labour to delivering a virtually carbon-free electricity system by 2030. ...
